Who wrote this song or sang it originally?

I've heard so many different versions and some of my friends and me were discussing who sang it first...

We could only agree we liked Goldfigners the most though...

I do know it was sung by Nena in 1983 in German: 99 Luftballoons and was re-released by her as well in 1984 in English: 99 Red Balloons.

That's all I know.

It was a German singer named Nena, who I had a huge crush on when I saw her video

Thanks man,

I see where Goldfinger got the german verse from... ...

I'm going to have to download this one now as I want to hear every version of the song that I can find...

Does anyone know how many other people have also covered this song?

no worries mate, boobie can be very distracting.

If I remember correctly I think she actually released several version of the song with different lyrics, so they both may be correct

Now, where are those WMDs? (Weapons of Mass Distraction) you clicked on?

Repeating my question from a previous topic...
Felix, out of curiosity... Why on Earth do you insist on using the rolling eyes emoticon with practically every single one of your posts, while the contents of your posts don't have that much to do with the underlying meaning which the rolleyes emoticon normally expresses? It's a bit confusing, and also a tad bit annoying at the same time, to be honest.
