If your trying for that solo-game thing I think those who have Fighter/mage/Theif kit also download the experiance cap remover.

Take advantage of each class, don't be afraid to hide in shadow and backstab, the use of magic also help, and yes, the exp cap remover also helps.

Welcome SWIZZLE!
there are tactics you may want to use when starting out if that's the case? on the harder enemy's try loring the beasties in one at a time it will get easier after you spend a little time profecting your combating techniques! just hang in there! And keep trying different thing's. GOOD LUCK!

no need for cap removing
f/t/m is one of the best character, he gets WAY powerful THROUGH out the entire game

many spells you should look into:

spirit armor
phantom blade
meteor attack (the thing looks like fire seeds)
improved haste

remember never put proficiency sword/shield style
have
flail++
long sword ++
dagger ++
two weapon style ++

Much Obliged for all of the suggestions.....i guess i never really use all
of the talents i usually use some magic and barge in and try and smash 'em
...i never use the thief side much....guess i should a little more.
And i always forget to backstab.
BTW
I am a level 11 Fighter
Level 13 Mage
Level 14 Thief
Amazing what happens when you just keep going back and for from city to outlands
and keep getting ambushed. All i have done is the thief stronghold quest and windspear. Nothing Else yet...hrm...

I am defn' playing differently next time...same character basically but change in tactics...no cheating other than using the anti-paladin....since i started out chaotic good but killed some people who ticked me off...including Aerie.
since i have viconia and i am a mage and so is Edwin....only good person in party now is Minsc.
Me Chaotic Evil F/T/M
Minsc
Korgan
Viconia
Edwin
Anti-Paladin
Tried using a dragon in party to see what would happen, but he kills everyone...not enough control..

Anyways thanks again.

It looks like you have already removed the xcap, otherwise it stops at level 11/12/14.

I have finnished the game with a fighter/mage/thief. You must backstab, it is the greatest ability of the thief. To make the game a little easier, you can also sell the wands that you got in the beginning and steal them back, then you will have 50 charges each.

I prefer to distribute my proficiency points this way:
katana++ (Celestial fury)
flail++ (Flail of ages)
short bow++ (Tuigan bow- great in the beginning)

later in the game:
long sword+
single weapon style++
