If he's truly a friend, he would have offered to pay for it himself. So he just laughed in your face ?

Doesn't sound like a friend to me.
But - Maybe he was too embaressed and didn't know what to say, other than the "here you are". Try to explain to him that you are dissapointed, that he just didn't cared for it like if it was his own stuff. Tell him that you would have bought a new game (or paid the money for it), if it was you who had damaged a borrowed game. If he still acts as it wasn't his fault that the game was broken. And like it is your problem, because it was you who borrowed him the game, then: Time to go out and seek some new friends! Insane

I'd say he owes you a new game. If you borrow something, you take extra good care of it as it's not yours!

Dude, if he really thinks it's funny to give you the disc back in two pieces, then take it, go to his parents and tell your story. See if he's still laughing after that.

Make him pay *evilgrin* Make him PAY!
seriously: It's as simple as that. he borrowed it, he broke it, he compensates for it. Unless he finds another way (like getting a used game in good condition and giving it to you) he'll have to pay. Normally I am quick to forgive my friends if the break my things and don't ask for compensation but if I litterally get laughed at I would not understand why I should be the nice guy getting screwed. So basically I'd root for option 2 in a normal case but in this case (mockery) I'd strongly recommend option 4 (and would be quite understanding with people who choose option 1).

Sounds like a problem...
First, I'd talk to my friend. "Dude, I'm unhappy. I loaned you the game, and it's broken. I'd really like you to replace it for me." Either he does, or he doesn't. If he doesn't, I'm never loaning him anything else. He can b**** and moan all he wants, but he isn't worth my trust at this point. Life goes on. Leave him behind and move on. And when he asks why, tell him. And when he says, "aww, you're not all bummed up about some stupid game, are you? It wasn't even fun anyway!" and tries to belittle you into going along, tell him, "hey -- I can't trust you with a game, so do you think I'm going to trust you with anything valuable?" Just move on, that's what she told me.

You know what I'd do, *borrow* one of his brand new games, break and say "Oh, you left this here the other day." But thats just me.

Ask for compensation, definately. If he purposely and knowingly does something like that to you, and refuses to make any steps toward apologising, is he realy a friend? I would say not. If he doesn't even apologise, let alone compensate, go for option 1.
