Tonight is the semi-finals of the women's curling competion.

Tonight is the night when we find out if Rhona Martin and her team will become famous British heroines or a bunch of Scottish losers!

Very funny. The old mother father scenario - "My child" if good, "yours" if bad.

I just found out about that sport for the first time this year at the olympics. I couldn't believe people actually played that!! It must be a cultural thing.

I used to watch that when I lived in Potsdam, NY (you're darn near Canadian if you live up there ), I thought it was a cool game, VERY difficult, but not too exciting to watch.

I got the point Donut - and so do most of the tartan terrors. I know you were jesting, but it is more evident than you realise sometimes. When I visited my great aunt in Inverness she berated me for buying an English paper (forget - either Times or Guardian). When I asked why she harumphed, and told me to open it up at any sports page - only took her 30 seconds to show me an example in print. From memory it was athletics, and it went something like "England's wonder boy win's gold ............etc. There was further British success when Jock McTavish (substitute Scottish name as needed) took gold in the........"

We are no better over here - "West Auatralia's Adam Gilchrest was today...... (even though he comes from NSW). Champion Australian leg spinner hane Warne.......". Says something about human nature, or what they think will sell papers.

Oh - good luck to the Scot's in the curling

It amazes me how many Brits who have never even HEARD of curling before the last few days are suddenly leaping up and down with excitement! (LOL, Donut, I'm not saying you are in that category!)
The newspapers have been giving over column inches to explaining the rules of the game.

And do you know, I haven't watched a single second of all this? Olympics? What Olympics? I didn't even know it was taking place until the threads started here.

Epona, I am wounded! We know as much about Curling as the Aussies know about the 1000 metres falling over race! Or the Americans about sliding down a mountain of ice on a tea tray.

BTW - interesting fact of the day. There is a film coming out about curling later in the year. It's called Men With Brooms and stars Leslie Nielson.
