Hey, Bomb, i did go straight to Bela from the Monastery my first game, i just decided not to listen to Burz. I thought of him as a silly little thief, and he said 'go South' so i went North and stuck to the right wall all the way, Hogars and all, right onto the Bridge Golem and up to Bela, blithely whacking my way through the Coatls and Sprites. I remember thinking, 'Ascension Peak already? Short game!'

Got to Arnika last night btw (busy IRL past few days), and I got Ariel's Slippers on the way from that gang of cuthrhoats near the bagpipes. I think I killed a million of them in the other game, and no slippers, and that party has a bard... Figures...

Hmmm, good spell for learning wizardry? I suppose repeatedly casting enchanted blade isn't how it's done Used knock knock for alchemy this time, because I remembered what a pain in the a** it was to mix couple of million potions last time (probably missed some good alc practise spell tho) when I used knock knock for wizardry. Mental, psionics, earth and alchemy at 100 now, phew...
Any good divinity learning spell btw? Tried tossin guardian angel to everyone in each fight, but divinity just doesn't want to improve. Does running around and then casting rest all work well, anyone tried that? Hmmm, what else did I have in mind... Oh yea. Does hypnotic lure improve fire skill, if I cast it next to any npc repeatedly? Basically I'm trying to find non combat spells, that improve skill with repeated casting, for divinity, wizardry, fire magic, divine magic, air magic and water magic. Tho divine magic does seem to improve fairly well with guardian angel/enchanted blad/magic screen/bless, but I'd still like something I can spam for a while, and walk away with 100 in skill |

Early on, light will boost the fire category, but before long your character will be advanced enough that it doesn't help much.
The same is true of most spells: for skill bumps, ones you learn early generally aren't of much use later on. Hypnotic Lure is a great fire booster when you first get it, but once you can cast it green at level 7, not effective anymore. On the upside, you don't need to be in combat to cast it, though you can't be too close to potential enemies either. Same is true of sonic boom: once made the mistake of casting it in Sadok's chamber, accidently hostiled the T'rang. Portal is the best for boosting air, and often boosts divinity or wizardry as well: it seems to keep working, unlike other practice spells. Early on, detect secrets is good for the mental realm, then Xray when it becomes available. Charm and mindread are good, but have at least a small risk of hostileing the target. Have never had a boost from rest all, even if we needed resting. I just cast a lot of water spells in combat. When teaching a bishop a new book, say alchemy, I make it a point to use only alchemy spells like acid splash, if the combat looks like its going to go well. Early, all the buffs help: armorplate, enchanted, missle and magic sheild, but taper off once you get competent at them. By then, I usually have some hybred characters that can take over and learn their magic while the pure casters conserve manna. Oru |

I don't train skills anymore, but I have noticed that the skills raise very fast when you cast spells like cure lesser cnd and heal all.

With my five spellcasters, i set a portal at the fountain in trynton. Just teleport in, refresh, teleport out. With my bishop-fighter duo, i used several mana stones, and let them recharge by shopkeepers. Or i rest, if i'm not in an area that i want to finish quickly. Just let the monsters respawn, for more experience, and more chances to improve your skills. How important is time? The Dark Savant won't be able to enter the cosmic circle, unless i prepare the way for him. |
