Why Do Rangers suck?

I saw too many people saying rangers suck.I myself like rangers.Probably because I like Drizzt in the icewind dale novel.Anyway,in all seriousness,why do rangers suck?I feel that a dual wielding ranger is quite effective.Also,as they gain level,they gain some nice offensive spells and summoning spells.In my opinion,their spells are much better than the palains'.I have two clerics(planning to remove 1 for a druid) in the party,why should I bother about paladin spells?Anyway,the thing is that paladin can use holy avenger,that is the reason I choose a paladin instead of ranger(saving throw bonus perhaps).The problem about this is that THERE IS NO SWORD THAT IS BETTER THAN THE HOLY AVENGER.I feel that this is not fair.(Why only paladin can use the best sword in the game?That sucks.)

Finally,i want ask a quistion,do rangers really suck and deserve no place in a party?

i dont think there is any class/race that completely SUCKS...

Every class or race deserve a place in the game. it's up to the player how to use and play them.

I like rangers too myself, but they don't have much of potential for "hitting big". My dwarf fighter rarely hits anything below a 25, when a ranger with dual scimitars can hit on average a 15-20. As for spells, I too liked the ranger spells better than the paladins [img]smile.gif[/img]

3rd ed. rules seemed to trim back a bit on rangers power. Particularly the archer. Once again, the fighter class is on top for weaponry specialization.

Fighters can become much better Archers and Dualwielders then Ranger could possible be, especially at the higher levels, hoevere Rangers get more skills, and get druidic spells. A ranger can use hide and move silently to sneak up on an opponent and thus take out enemy spellcasters before they even know it. Fighters however have to trust their sheer strenght and ability in combat will pull them through

Well, when it comes too Scimitars or Rapiers, you could have some neato damage if you specialize in Criticals. You can get 12/20 threat range, so 50% to Critical Hit. So when dual wielding these, it doesn't matter how low your attack mod may be, you will score Crits a lot. With the amount of attacks you get, probably 1 or 2 per round.
