On the subject of Druids - I've got a Fighter/Druid in my HOF party. The dual class appears to have lots going for it and very few disadvantages. So do you guys like to play straight Druid or Fighter/Druid?

With smaller parties of 3 or 4 the Fighter/Druid. With full fledged parties just a plain druid for the purpose of gaining high levels quickly.

Fighter/Druids are preferable for me.

Presuming we are back to IWD/HoW: Then Fighter/Druid, definitely, to get *** proficiency in sling if for nothing else. Though I probably wouldn't run him all the way up to level 9 fighter, first, unless playing HoW/TotLM areas or HoF mode or with reduced party size.
