thanks to all who posted and helped!!! and, i did finally get them, heres how i did it. I ran all the way to the castle, and they followed, i got to the south end from under the moat, i went up the tower where you open the drawbridge, and then it was so awesome, i got to stand there at my liesure, heal, and use one burn spell at a time till they were toast. i even had time to stand there and let my mana replenish,so i could toast the 2nd and 3rd beast. what a calm switch from the pounding heart and being absolutely frantic that for me the game was over. for now, i have just finished the castle and am wondering where to go next. thanks again to all who helped!

Barbara,

What a neat solution!! I never thought about running to the towers to "off" the Mantraps. Of course, they wouldn't be able to follow or target you there.

Do add that one to the "Creative Solutions" thread. I'll have to try that next time around...(oops, well, there's one more justification for me playing the game again...as if I needed one!

I found the best way to kill mantraps is to get them stuck on something and then use burn repeatedly until they're dead(most mana efficient) I went up a few lvls real fast without a scratch off these guys =)

I actually managed to beat the mantraps yesterday before reading this post, but it was a close thing.

What I did was run back all the way to town, stopping only once to dispatch of a few rats (around Erzebette's hut) before one of the plants threatened to catch up with me.

Maybe I was lucky but by the time I reached town there was only one plant in sight. I managed to kill that one with an incinerate and two lightning spells (I had almost finished the serpent temple and my two wizards had pretty high spell levels, one sun and one stone).

Just when I had finished the plant the second one appeared, so I had to run back into town, heal, and then try to shoot spells at it just as quick. The third one fortunately never got further than a few steps from where it started, so I could take that one on by itself.

So if I were to play again, I would again try to get those spells for ending this fight quickly. How about the other spells? Does anyone more experienced have a hint as which ones work even better?

And another question: I'm constantly stumbling over my feet selecting spells when I reload a game or step out of town. Is there any way to hotkey a spell so that I can select it with just a single keystroke, or do I always have to go through the spellbook, selecting book and spell with my mouse? (I'm no good at targeting things with a mouse pointer I'm afraid .

I didn't find the mantraps very hard at all. I started my party with two wizards and on each level up I advanced one in sun magic the other in stone, so by the time I saw the mantraps each wizard had their respective level 7 AE spells. The mantraps didn't last long.
