I know someone mentioned this awhile ago, but I don't see it anywhere.

I just wanted to give my props to this game. It's on the amateur side, and it's not pretty, but you can play the entire game for free, up until level 6, and after that it's like $18.

I don't know if it has long term appeal, but it's got really fun combat, particularly archery and horseback riding.

Frankly, I'm thinking of paying so that I can get back at some vikings who robbed me lol.

how does this game work? i take it you are a single char, and set orders for men you recruit? How far in terms of time do you get in before the cut off?

I think you can get to the level cap faairly fast. I had a couple'a characters at level 6 by the time I decided to pay.

When fighting, you can give a few rather basic orders to all your men (think 'stay', 'follow' and 'attack' might be all). It's the throwing axes at others' heads bit that's grat fun, not the tactics

You're a single character - you pick the job you had before you started (squire, priest, merchant, etc), put together a basic character sheet, and have at it.

I just saved my life by putting an arrow in the tiny part of my enemy's head that wasn't covered by his shield as he rode down on me with a lance

That's how the game works hehe. It's just good combat, advancing your character to get into some bigger and nastier fights.
