I often play a male character even though I am most definately not male (Anomen is not my image of an engaging romance and the female NPCs just seem a little more interesting), I was just wondering if any of you fellas ever play female characters. And before you get any ideas, I'm straight, it's just a game, after all.

I am most definitely a straight male. Still I am playing the game with a female ranger a this time. Done a lot of walking through Amn with both sexes and most of the different classes as PC. It's just nice for a change sometimes.
And after all it's just a game as you say.

I always play the female char. (Ahm, except dwarves. My dwarves are always male.) I tend to have all-female parties as well, and even if not, girls are the majority.

Why? Because I like women more than men. Why would I observe a muscular guy throughout the game? It is not me down there deep inside the monitor, it is some well shaped girl. If you have played Fallout, you know what I am talking about.

if you want an engaging romance for your chick then download kelsey (though it has yet to let me install it, but this comp may just be crap)
I try playing as guys but I always get way to attatched to my characters so they always end up being girls, but I do intend to play a male next. maybe a wizard or something since I'm playing a kensai right now.

I have only played a female through ToB once and that was to experience the Anomen romance. Anomen is not that bad once he decides to get friendly with you.
Interestingly the only times the romance thing has worked out well is when I was a female romancing Anomen and when my male PC and decided that Sola was not such a bad catch.

My first time through was with a female cavalier I imported from bg1 (the only character I've actually finished that game with) quite alot of fun actually.

I've played both male and female. More often male since there are more romance options, but when I play IWD or use a multiplayer party, I always have a mix of men and women. In SoA, I tend to use a male as the PC in multi games, both because of the romance options and because I can of course identify better with a male character (SoA has the feeling that the PC is meant to be the player's persona, while in IWD, it's a little more removed, and no particular character is identified as representing the player)

Although I have the same bias as Vedran when it comes to dwarves...for some reason, I only come up with character ideas for male dwarves.

i dont use female gnomes either. neither do i use halfling or halforc females, which leaves: Human, Half-Elf and Elf. i think that the player usually wants the charcter to be flawless, meaning that the male is strong and muscular and the female is beautiful and well "shaped". there are, of course, exceptions.

I can never completely identify myself with a character I play. Not only in Baldur's Gate, it is the case with first person games too.
