It's our National Day today! Yippee!
I've come over all patriotic. In the words of William Blake: And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the Countenance Divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among these dark Satanic mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold: Bring me my arrows of desire: Bring me my spear: O clouds unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire. I will not cease from mental fight Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In England's Green and pleasant land. It's Shakespeares birthday today - he's 436, that's more than 48 in dog years Thou mewling flap-mouthed puttock! Thou frothy rump-fed mumble-news! HAHA Donut!
Personally I am particularly fond of Blake's tongue-in-cheek poke at the rising industrialisation of England. Did you know he founded the neo-Druid movement in England? Most people, because of that poem, assume he was a Christian his whole life. [ 04-23-2002, 07:21 AM: Message edited by: Epona ]

I think many people know of her as Bast, it is probably just that Bastet is considered correct for the moment LOL, you know how it is! Just as Seth has also been called Set, Setekh, Suty and Sutekh - much depends upon the translation and pronunciation conventions of the day (Bantu is used nowadays as a pronunciation guide), and regional/temporal variations within ancient Egypt itself. One thing that interests me greatly is the way that the Egyptian written language as seen in heiroglyphs didn't change much over the millennia. I've heard it suggested (although I'm no linguist) that for there to be so little change indicates that maybe it bore little or no relation to the everyday language that people of the time spoke - which can change dramatically in as little as 200 years - and that it was purely ritual, I suppose in a similar way than some modern churches and science use Latin. Oooops, Sorry Donut, major thread derailment occurring - please assume the crash position
