Mother's Day in the US was started in 1918 by President Wilson who was trying to appease the "rabid hordes of suffrage marchers" by giving them a holiday...a purely underhanded and manipulative ploy steeped in commercialism and the classic male egotism of the day. It obviously didn't work, for in 1920, the 19th amendment was passed giving women the right to vote here, and we now have this otherwise useless holiday hanging around our necks like a dead albatross. I mean, one should honor one's mother every day, not set aside a day for it!

And if I hear one more ^$#&@$*! whining, manipulative "Hells-burg" diamond ad on the radio, I'm going to scream. It's gotten to I don't care how much I like the station, if those thrice-damned ads come on, I spin the dial, or turn the thing off!

(in a rather radical mood tonight...)
