Good post TL - especially the last paragraph . You have to ask yourself though - why wouldn't the chemical companies (whoops) trade representatives get on the band wagon of the recent "them versus us" (Bush v Europe) sentiment. There must be some good PR miles at the moment through pushing causes with anti-Europe slants. The writer of MagiK's article just oozed objectivity too didn't they - makes you wonder if he was sponsored by Monsanto too?

Well, Davros:
1. Those companies are busy going about business, of course, and can only be so political. Most of their political-type efforts are aimed at lobbying congressmen and agencies.
2. Due to the success of lobbying, they've no need to involve themselves in the way you mention.
3. Such politics are, as we've seen, volitile for one's image. Even Colin Powell has had his rep tarnished in this mess - particularly when Blix played turncoat last week (re: no evidence of "sneaking weapons out the back door"). And, since they do run large ad campaigns in Europe and try to sell there (which is why the USTR is their friend), they have no desire to alienate the EU consumer any more than the US one.

Agreed - my point about getting on the band wagon was saying that they are using articles like this as a way of publicly shoring up the "justness" of their postion at home. I would think (or perhaps it is only a hope) that the whole US isn't totally sold on that GM stuff, but the climate is good at the moment to sell the Europeans as intractable, thus scoring a few more points domestically for GM. The article wasn't pubished in the EU, and is certainly not aimed to win any political miles or customers over there.

There are only a few who benefit from the EU, and large corperations and governments are among them, not the normal people.
Actually the vote was 51.8% against (and 48.2% for) the Euro - and we only got that vote because a previous vote had Danmark opt out of the common currency. Today the polls show a majoerity for the Euro (ca. 60%)

LOL - I re-read the article and noted that while the article quotes many European sources on the "pig toys" subject, only one of your European sources was giving a quote that was vaguely pro GM - it was the writer of the article that kicked in the pro GM bile - till next time honey

It's a shame European functionaries don't care as much about Africans as they do about pigs.
This is a very very offensive way to start an article !
Sounds like anti-Euro propaganda, nothing else.
