*Looks up ludicrous-1 : amusing or laughable through obvious absurdity, incongruity, exaggeration, or eccentricity
2 : meriting derisive laughter or scorn as absurdly inept, false, or foolish .*
Yeah, I'll have to go with that. But, I'll have to add, he is just a kid.

IMO, what Cloudy does is not spam. Well, she used to but the last several months, most posts had actual relevance or content. What I consider spam, and therefore annoying, is posts that lack any purpose, just pure drivel, meaningless stuff, MSN-type stuff, that sort of thing.
Also when you want to know who spams a lot post count doesn't really come into it. Posts-per-day ratio reveals the true spammer.
Thanks, Mel.

Fact is, the silly 'chat-back' stuff belongs on MSN or AIM etc or some chat room, not the forum. Z has made that clear a few times.

I know this thread was started in a fun manner and 'tongue in cheek', but I'd like to remind anyone who thinks it's 'cool' to post that chat-back stuff or 'pure drivel' that it's not appropriate and hardly 'cool'. Content is the key and relevant posts are worthwile reading. Garbage spam has very limited appeal and annoys more people than it amuses.

Yes, Attalus has a point here. Much as the general attitude has been that the Cafe is only 'crap' or 'spam junk', IMO it isn't. It was never intended to be and if it does stay that way for long, I'd as soon shut it down as anything else.

We have had some very interesting conversations there. NO, it's not rocket science and it's not meant to be 'superior intellectual' fare... it's meant to be good old fashioned neighborly conversations. For instance, how many of you who avoid the cafe know that antryg's wife is in the hospital and they've been worried about diabetes as a complication of other issues? I'd hardly call that silly or spam. I think it's wonderful to have a place to discuss such things or just swap weather stories or home repair tips. I even enjoyed hearing what you did for your wife for Valentine's day, Attalus.

Yes, the ultra-spam has been reduced, but it's not consistent and I'd like to see it reduced to minimal on a regular basis, but I wouldn't say that there's nothing of value in the Cafe, even so. So if anyone hasn't been in a while, stop in and share a word or three with us about your day, your life, your kids, your plans or your lunch. And if you see 'chat-back' spam there, feel free to interrupt it.

Same here... It has actually happened on several occasions that I never even noticed certain posters until they had made their 1000th, 1500th or even 2000th post or so; and not because I overlooked their valuable contributions to the kind of topics I *do* read, but simply because those contributions were practically non-existant until that point. It's like they'd been active in some sort of MSN sponsored alternate dimension and then suddenly discover the wonders of meaningful, multi-sentenced conversation...
