Upgrading my system sometime soon and am looking for a vidcard with pizazz. Of course I am not looking for the latest and greatest. I mean why spend $600 on a card that will depreciate 30% in 2 months. So if you could give me a good idea on what to look for in a card as well as some name brands id appreciate it.

I recently saw a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX with dual processors at Best Buy for $120... and that's pretty top-grade stuff.

nvidia's next generation of cards is supposed to be released next month which sould drive down the prices on the current bad boys.
ati makes decent cards, but i dont think they are worth picking over nvidia's cards. the new matrox card is benchmarking under the geforce2 so dont waste your money.
the geforce4mx is the bottom of the line of nvidia's current products. (the mx versions are what they call their low end cards).
the the current "great" cards are the nvidia geforce4 ti series: the 4200, 4400, and 4600.
you can get a gainward geforce ti 4600 128Mb for $326 on pricewatch right now. according to the research i did last month that was the top dog of the video card world.

If you play games that need a decent 3D card (such as FPS or flight sims), forget about MX cards, even if it's a GeForce4. They are not as fast.
