Hmm, I'm not too bothered with that match- but I really thought Ireland deserved to win that, aside from the early goal in the first half by spain and their goaly doing a pretty good job, Spain just didn't put up the competition, Ireland were putting so much pressure on Spain that it's a wonder it was a draw up until the penalty, if it wasn't for Casillias I don't think it would've gone to penalty shoot outs, or maybe not even before that.

And they played superbly in the frist half - the goal that was disallowed in the 25. minute would have been the goal of the tournament - if Morientes(?) hadn't been just a bit to eager and avoided the off-side.

Spain played like a bunch of blind GEESE in the second half, they had the game at their mercy and went into their shells and let the Irish back into it, when they should have put them away. Camacho was LUCKY that he got away with his mystifying decision to pull Raul and Morientes off with a 1-0 lead. They should have kept attacking Ireland, rather than let Ireland resurrect themselves. Oh well...they escaped with the win, but numerous problems at the back.
Still...VAMOS ESPANA!!!! Commiserations Ireland. |

so far there seems to have been an awful lot of luck in these matches. Too many victories because other team botched something

What a pity. Ireland played magnificently, especially in the 2nd half. You would've thought that Spain were the minnows the way Ireland just piled on the pressure.
Spain had *2* goals disallowed due to offside. The first penalty awarded to Ireland looked a bit dubious to me. Could have been a late tackle coupled with diving. But the 2nd penalty (where Robbie Keane scored [is he relate to Roy Keane?]) was a right decision - the Spanish captain almost ripped off Quinn's jersey, he held on that tight. The Irish bow out of the tournament, but I think they did quite well.

I agree, Ireland played sensational football. Duff in particular.
All this without the best player in Ireland Roy Keane too. |

Ireland could have won if not for that stupid first penalty save.
