Ziroc, I went to the site, and it is going to have NPC's. All right! But I still want my NWN- (sobs). I still think that BGII-SoA is the best game ever.

I personally think this is a pretty cheapshot coming from Microsoft. First of all, I've never heard of Dungeon Siege until about two months ago, this game comes out of blue claiming similarity in design with NWN. It is meant to eat a portion of market shares from our the five-year-anitcipated game. It doesn't even need to advertise itself, because it is basically a substitution of NWN with only slight differences. and the formal has already spent so much effort on marketing and advertising.
Secondly it goes gold just about two months before NWN. For those who cannot wait to lay their hands on NWN, DS becomes a perfect timekiller. again, cheap, but very smart, I have to say. well, my computer cannot run neither of them. so I am just bitching, I guess [ 03-23-2002, 04:25 PM: Message edited by: TheThing ] |

I know nothing of Divine Divinity, so I won't comment on it.
I have, however, been following all four of the other RPG's mentioned here very closely, and I can help you figure out which will appeal most to you! Dungeon Siege: Unlike NWN, Dungeon Siege is almost completely action-oriented. Designed to have a seamless game world, party-based single/multiplayer game. In a sense, similar to the Diablo style of games (I mean that in a good way; the Diablo series has always been a casual-player-friendly action-RPG type of game, and Dungeon Siege looks to capture that feel). Icewind Dale 2: The only game of these four not to include an editing toolset for designing your own adventure. The Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games are so well known (and have so many available reviews) that I won't bother explaining the basic game. Biggest advantage? Great multiclassing system being implemented for those of you who prefer to not restrict your character to one profession at the start of a game (and purists can always opt just to NOT multiclass) Morrowind: If you enjoy exploring, this is easily going to be the best game of the bunch. I've been a big fan of the Elder Scrolls series, and have always loved the vast game worlds and freedom of character design and exploration. You don't even have to follow the main quest of the game; you can roam around the game world and pursue your own interests. The biggest two changes in this game from the previous ones are (1) the gorgeous graphics (probably need a fairly beefy system here to enjoy those) and (2) the fact that, unlike previous Elder Scrolls games, the gameworld is entirely hand-crafted and filled with stuff to do. Single player only, non-party-based (i.e. single character), but that does not mean that it will lack complexity. Great character development track record from these folks (my #2 anticipated right now) Neverwinter Nights: single and multi-player oriented game, the big deal about NWN is that it will be the first game (that I know of) to really try and take pen & paper gaming onto the PC. You can design your own adventures, and then take on the role of DM while other players log in to your game and either work apart or together. The DM client allows you to dynamically change the game world during play, and "possess" NPC's at will to interact with the players. This will quite possibly be the game with the most freedom for creating your own adventures (though Dungeon Siege and Morrowind hope to provide that as well with their own toolsets shipping with the games). Also has gorgeous graphics. (My #1 anticipated game) The problem is, all four of these (and from what it sounds, Divine Divinity as well) are all rock-solid products and on pretty even footing for purchase viability! Talk about a tough choice! If you prefer to play single-player and aren't much into creating adventures yourself, then IWD2 and Morrowind are probably your best choices. If you're looking more for online play, NWN and DS are the better two options. And again, only IWD2 will come without an editor, so the other three should be great creative outlets! Okay, I'll stop frothing at the mouth with excitement now... Farscry Counting the days until Morrowind...

From my point of view, I hope Dungeon Siege plays a bit like an updated version of Darkstone
I have always been a bit of a hack'n'slash afficionado (Diablo I / Hellfire, Diablo II, Septerra Core etc.) If DS plays half as good as the press puff says it will then I for one will lay down my hard earned cash and buy it on release - currently 19th April here
