Welcome to the world of Wizards and Warriors!

Life in the Gael Serran is good, but occasionally, mundane issues with your computer can prevent you from saving the Gael Serran from the evil lord Cet. To help you through those problems and get you back on your feet, horse, or raft, this thread has been compiled to bring all the known information about technical issues for W&W into one place. If they say it can't be done, check here first -- we may just know a way to do the impossible!

This thread was originally started by Sazerac and added to by a host of people. It has been reorganized to condense it a bit and to provide easier ways for you to find the answers you may need.

How to find your answers
Below this post is an index post, which contains a listing of everything in the thread. Find your symptoms or problem in the index, and you can click on a possible solution found elsewhere in the thread. Find one problem, and you can look for other related problems you may not have discovered yet. Or just read through all the posts -- for some people, that's fascinating reading!

How to post a new issue
Have a problem that isn't covered? Don't fret -- help is just a post away!

Reply to this post and ask your question. Be sure to include all the relevant information, including:

 • What version of Windows are you running?
 • What video card do you have?
 • What version of directx are you using?
 • How much memory do you have?
 • What's the exact problem you're having?
You wanna know what?
Okay, so some of the information we need may be a bit daunting for someone who's not already a chiphead. Here are a couple of shortcuts to find out...

 • Video Card and DirectX Info -- Go to the Start Menu, click on Run, and enter dxdiag and hit return. The needed information will be there; exactly where depends on your version of DirectX.
 • Windows version and memory -- Right click on My Computer and select Properties. The first screen shows the Windows version on top, and the amount of memory on the bottom.
Give us everything we need to know about your system and problem, and we can probably help you through it. Or at the very least, we can commiserate with you about it at the Boogre Bar.

Now, go forth, find the answer to that pesky problem, and get on your way to the Mavin Sword.

The Gael Serran needs you!

Bungleau;

This looks Great!!!

You might want to add 1 more line though.
...It might help to know what Operating System you are using, because some problems can be OS related. (Or something to that affect)

Excellent Bungleau!! I was just thinking that the general info category can be added to the greeting. To the "Have a problem.." paragraph somewhere. That way you wouldn´t have to scroll to the index just to post a problem. It would al be covered in that 1st post. I´ll just say it again, excellent Bungelau, excellent!

ps. The new index is in you emails all! Except you Bungleau, cause I don´t know where to send it.

Sorry, WillowIX. Send mine to dulecki@yahoo.com.

And I'll look at the suggestions again tonight for a review and second try. I think I like the idea of including the rules for posting in this post -- perhaps they could remain in the index, but be pointed back to the initial post? Just a thought...

Big THUMBS UP!!!!

Having just gotten back from the Border Collie Raffle thing, I'm really tired. Hopefully my mind will be a bit clearer tomorrow and I can say something more useful but I can safely say "GREAT JOB!!!"

Many thanks!!!

Even better than excellent Bungleau! The General Info category can now be deleted from the index... I´ll give it a try and see how it looks. One more thing though. You might want to add "How you find the infoe we need". For instance tell them to run dxdiag to get all necessary info. And include what graphics card they are using and perhaps also driver version (it´s all in dxdiag)

Okay, how's that? BTW, I'm starting to get concerned with the length of this post -- it's starting to feel long.

I don't think it is too long and it might be possible to visually divide it by making good use of html code without getting boggling in the process. I think the html code has more impact than the bold font and will better highlight the important headings and dividing the sections so the whole doesn't seem as long.

Good use of HTML code, yah... hope you don't mind that I stole it right out from under your post

I only hope the yellow font works with all possible backgrounds. Yellow on brown is pretty easy to read, but yellow on white is cause for justifiable homicide in some places

Further thoughts?

If thats what drinking that 'Blue Brew' can do...
I'll have to start drinking it too....

It looks like ..the 3 rd times a charm..
That part of the thread, is Definitely ready for prime time.

Way to go, Bungleau ....

BTW...The yellow, looks great on green.
...Is your background really brown? On My other monitor, it came up brown...I thought it was because it was 10yo.
