Enter the room through the painting by choosing "Lysan". Inside that shadow room you'll find that you cannot open the north door but your character will discover a secret west door. open it.

Then adjust the adjustable mirror. Send someone to stand near the north door of shadow room. pull the lightning switch and the lightning will travel through the hallway and will hit your character and thus will open the door.

On a side notice related to your original question. The lightning prism can be repaired in 2 other ways:
1. A character with a high 'Use magic device' skill can repair it though it will take 24 hours.
2. If you still havent asked Nickodemus for a favour you can ask him to repair it as a favour. The loserest way of all

. a perfect waste of a good favour.

I can't open that door while inside the room. It just says "Embrace the shadow".

OK, I see the hint didn't work. After you've opened the door before that room(the one in the hall) have a character with the second biggest hp stand on the shadow. Shoot the lightning and make sure it hit's the shadow via the mirrors. The doors open. Now the man with the biggest hp goes in and talks to the .... the rest is spoilerish...

Got it all done now. needed someone to stand in the shadow and someone else to open the secret door at the same time. After that it doesn't matter where anyone stands once you shoot the lightning generator.

Now I'm trying to figure out the Fell Wood. Thanks for your help, folks.

As for fell wood the "wilderness lore" skill is your friend
