Help! Killing the Yuan Ti Guardian *Spoiler*

So I really am having problems killing this dragon. He's a black I believe by dragon standards using acid attacks. Here's my problem:

My party gets scared every two freakin seconds and runs away and then I will only be in control with so few at a time that I can't do much. Plus my casters don't seem to be doing any damage to him, any notable spells to use? And how do I prevent from people being scared before they actualyl are... I can only cast remove fear so many times.

There is a couple ways to handle the fear problem.

Bard - Sing the Song that makes your party immune to fear througout the battle.
Cleric - Cast resist fear (Use all slots for this spell if you find you are running out)

He seems to have a vulnerability to electricity. The Druids Call Lightning, and Static Charges work best and do the most damage. Oh, and Thorn Spray works quite well you just have to be carful to move your own party members out of the way.

Have fighters attack him but watch your screen. As soon as he goes to attack someone have them move away from him and be a decoy until he decides to go after someone else. Buff Spells like Haste are really good. Keep spell casters within sight but not to close to take acid damage. Summons are not great but they do buy you some time use as many as you have.

Also do a search on this site to see how different people handled this situation.

He is tough, but no match for a bard and a party of druids.

there is a cheesy way to beat the guardian...you summon a summon, any summon will do, and cast Otiluke's Resilient Sphere (if the name is wrong, its the one that makes you 100% invulerable) on it. Then, get the guardian to attack it...stupid AI= keeps attacking it until you safely kill it. Sounds fanstastic, doesn't it?

I'm not sure if this works with the patch. Or is it Weimer's IWD2 fix? Something that makes the dragon teleport without error if it's boxed in like that.

The Guardian's not too tough. Buff like crazy, cast Lower Resistance on the dragon, then unload some high-damage spells on him. pritchke's decoy tactic works well and better than summons--they don't last too long.

Cast disintigrate and bam! the dragon is gone. easy as pie.

My game always crashed when I cast Disintegrate, Finger of Death, Harm, Destruction, Power Word: Kill and Banshee's Wail on this dragon. It never crashed anywhere but here. May be just my CD, but I dunno.

hey uuummm by the way you can't just cast disintegrate because the dragon have good reflexives so your gonna have to memorize as many desinagrate spell's as possible and then, just a saying, Rip his head off and crap down his neck! and i'v never acually got away with disenigrate he alway's seem's to make a succesful will save well any way and by the way you can't cast call lightning on a druid because the lightning just disinigrates itself. don't know what's that's all about but if you remember when you killed caballus and had that war in targos well the goblin elite guy drops a amulet that has immune to panic and fear thing to it so try to find one of those orn start a new game that usually is what I do to power up my characters then fight the war in targos and get that neckless/amulet identify it well you dont have too but best to know what amulet it is and after you get the neckless/amulet EXPORT/IMPORT and i know technicly a person only lives once but hey it's there for a reason that I havn't figured out yet but it sure did help me out ALOT so as I said EXPORT/IMPORT and if you have numerous characters that are all different or maby only some of them are different take any quest items and give them to another character then put the neckless/amulet on that character and EXPORT/IMPORT ohh and after you exxport take the neckless/amulet off that character and give it to another then delete the character that you just exported then bring him back and thats now 2 remove/immune fear and panic neckless/amulet and just keep on doing that until you have 1-6 or however amny characters you have and also have fun trying cya!

if advice doesn't help don't kill it.
if you have to kill it get more advice.
if that advice doesn't help... well then i'm afraid you need to restart the game or skip it and and kill other thing worth the expeirience then come back and kill if you can't you suck someth'in else and just restart the game!

Death magic is Fortitude save. Druid's Call Lightning and Static Charge is an awesome spell here, because if you memorise it full the game will be over in about 5-7 rounds because the Guardian gets a minimum 10d10 damage every round. Resort to the aforementioned cheating method only when you're sure that even after several tactic changes you can't beat him or after toning down difficulty.

Lower Resistance exists for a reason. Disintegrate might not always work after that, but spells have a better chance of getting through magic resistance if you cast LR.

And "ripping his head off and crapping down his neck" is not always an option. Spellcasters too exist for a reason. (And while the sentiment is admirable, the words aren't. Please watch your language.)

well any way and by the way you can't cast call lightning on a druid because the lightning just disinigrates itself.

...do you know how the spell works? IIRC, the bolts strike once per round and the number of bolts depends on the caster's level. The bolts need to pierce MR but they pack a punch when they do.

...but if you have a paladin with an Aura of Courage or a priest or druid who can cast Remove Fear, it's not necessary to import and export characters so everyone has this amulet. (And this can also be considered cheating.)

Technically, it's there to back up your characters or to import them into HoF mode, not to cheat by swapping items.

You're not supposed to cast them on your PC, you're supposed to cast them on the dragon, lol. Sorry, just had to say it [img]smile.gif[/img]
