I'm currently running an Inquisitor, but wouldn't want to take him solo. Too one-dimensional. I think for solo, I'd go with either a Fighter dualed to Mage, a Ranger dualed to Cleric, or a Berzerker dualed to Cleric.

Clerics have a lot of good stuff for BG2, especially considering the amount of undead in the game.

you DO NOT have to be mage (or partial mage) to finish the game. various items in BGII allows you to play a lineared character with diversive strategies.

monk isnt a bad choice dosnt need the items gets magic resistance some thief abilities can heal himself and are really destructive fighters at high levels and impossible to hit with the ac bonus they get youd have to definatly remove the cap though
