I know that IWD2 enforces character "true-to-standard" game-play...for example...the paladins do not take money as rewards for doing good. I also read somewhere else that having an elf in you party could be valuable in interpreting goblin speech. Stuff like that.

Well, I have a teifling in my party. At first level, you could choose the option to give her snake-blood in the feats area I believe, as you would be saying that she was decendant of Yuan-ti. Now, I know that there are Yuan-ti encounters in this game. Is there any way that my rogue teifling would be of value where no other character would have success, due to her ancestry? If I let her do the talking...would I be able to by-pass a Yuan-ti hostile encounter and make off on easy street???

NO!---SNAKE BLOOD---this feat can only be taken at first level.
The bonus to Reflex saving throws is nice,as is the additional chance to save
against poisen. However, there are more usefull feats available to first level charactors, making this choice viable for Human characters or fighters who have a bonus feat at this level. Quoited from prima's official Strategy Guide.

It might not be the "best" feat when you start, but in the long run, it is a good investment. Also, this is a roleplaying game, taking the "best" feats all the time is pointless.

True that. I choose feats based on their relation to the race and class, never by "the best". I guess these are just some of the little things that offset the PGs from the RPs.

But Larry, I'd say that if you had a ranger, for instance, and you chose for their racial enemy Lizard Men, Yuan-ti, Trolls, and Salamanders (what I was aiming for, also seem to be the closest to each other), then the 'Snake Blood' feat would be perfect for that char.

I do this too and totally agree with it. I like my game to be an RPG not a WWF Smackdown so my priorities lie in matching certain feats and skills to the appropriate classes even if they aren't the 'best' option to choose at the time. For example with my Ranger even tho she could have used more combat/defensive oriented abilities I made sure to max on the Animal Empathy and Wilderness Lore skills and choosing feats like Forester, Rapid Shot, Resist Venom and Improved Initiative. The way I see it if I wanted another fighter class I woulda created one but since I didn't I stay true to the class for what it is.
