I think they forgot to pack the manual or something, because I don't have one, it might have fallen out when I opened the box and I can't find it again...but anyways, I have no idea how to play this game. How do I attack, cast spells, kill ANYTHING? As soon as I leave town I get slaughtered by men....any help?

Welcome to the W&W Forum! There are round buttons on the lower left side to choose weapons, magic spells, a map( 2nd click gives larger view, but must close to get back to the action). Right click on character portraits to view stats, inventory, and other info. It's better to take the Graveyard road 1st, I'm told, 'cause the monsters on that side aren't as strong. There's a LOT more to learn about it though. If you can contact the store about the missing text, or purchase the hint book, it will help with the basics. It's not well regarded for accurate info. in general, but it's better than nothing.

Also, left click on the target you want to attack. You can use the right mouse button to move, or I use the left mouse button to "look" and the #8 keypad(on right side of keyboard) to move forward. It takes a little getting used to, but it works well for most travel situations. Depending on the gameplay settings you can target friendly NPC's. Check out the game options menu-when in the town, click on the computer icon in the extreme lower left corner. Make sure the safeguard mode is set at "safe" to help prevent targeting friendly characters and casting beneficial spells on enemies. You still can do these by using the "control" key on the keyboard. #'s 7+1 sidestep right and left respectively. #'s 3+9 look up and down, #5 centers looking to "straight on", #2="walk backwards", #4+6=look left and right respectively. Hold shift while going forward to run, press #0 to jump, climb, swim to surface, etc. Whew! that's only just the beginning! "May Kerah be with you" my friend!

Hello DjF_X! There is a wonderful place you can explore that was created by our own Rick Volberding. He has spent a lot of time and work putting instructions at his site to help folks.

You can look here: http://www.volberding.com/WHints/index.html

to see what I am talking about. Any questions you have then, just ask. We love answering questions and hearing about your adventures! I am sure you will find a lot of help at the link above. Good luck!

Hi, DjF_X,

There should be an on-line manual on your CDs. It can be accessed from the Activision group under Programs on your Start menu.

You should also find a walkthru of the first dungeon, the Crypt.

Also, remember that some of the things you need to see (like the lever to open the crypt) are well hidden in shadows. Might pay you to employ a Whiska or buy a torch until you get the Torchlight spell (or even better, Illuminate). Spirit Eye, which reveals the location of useful things with a white dot on your map, is another handy spell to get early.

Hope you get started without dying soon because, even though plagued with bugs, this game is wonderful.
