Beans ARE good for the heart

I was doing continuing medical education (bletch)this morning, and I came across this great paper, by Bazzano, et al, in the Archives of Internal Medicine,2001;161:2573-2578. (Don't look for the link, I don't know how). It says, basically that eating legumes (dry beans and peas) lowered the risk of coronary heart disease, even though bean-eaters were more likely to smoke, eat more saturated fat, and male, they tended to have lower cholesterol levels, less hypertension, and lower rates of diabetes. They were more physically active, less overweight than what they call their bean-eschewing counterparts, but they were less educated. Now, if I could just remember why they are called the musical fruit!
