Greetings All,

A. Can't find enough Giant Crabbies to get conch shells for breathing gear. Been wandering around Skull Island set to often encounters as someone sugeested, yet they never come?

B. Can a cursed item ever be cleansed? I usually just sell them but recently go Devils Axe(finally a powerful axe for my Barbarian "Axle")and want to use it without suffering neg consequences. I have the Priest uncurse it in temple but soon as I put it on again, curses and drat once more?

Sirspitfyre -

I found the best way to locate crabs was to sail around in my ship close to short (but NOT in Talrik's area) and when my scout said there were crabs nearby to jump over board and go looking for them. Many have been found in the area between Skull Castle and Brimloch Roon so widen your search area.

Cursed items are forever cursed. Such a pity, but that is the way the game works.

Those crabs come way too infrequently, even with spawn rate set to high. Does anyone know if the Bard's Iron Lung skill is good enough, or does she need a breathing set?

About cursed weapons - all the curses staves I've found so far do one point of damage to the wielder every few minutes, but my warlock regenerates faster, so I'm cool with that. However, my Paladin has taken quite a liking to the Great Sword of Doom. This weapon deals out quite hefty punishment, and there don't seem to be any drawbacks. Since you "don't git nuthin fer nuthin", I hope I'm not missing anything. Any ideas?

Iron Lung - while this will help your bard a lot when you go to the underwater city I doubt that it will completely compensate for the lack of a breather (not that I have personally tried this). Seems to me that your party is going to end up searching for air based on the needs of the character with the shortest underwater time anyways so equip them all with breathers. (I also never bothered with the breath of air spell after trying that a few times - there are enough pockets of air in the city that the spell didn't prove that useful).

The number of crabs is obviously very random. I had NO difficulty collecting shells but have read many posts from other players where their quests for shells were very frustrating. Hope your crab hunting will be more successful!!

The crabs are way too infrequent until you you already have your full set of breathers. After that, you cannot get rid of them. There are several crabs inside the sunken city where you need the breathers most, but that doesn't help much.

Iron Lung is a great trait but is not quite as good as a breather. You should be able to survive with Iron Lung, but I would make sure that someone knows Breath of Air. If you have Iron Lung AND a breather, you can stay down there forever. At the end of the Sunken City, when you no longer need a breather or Iron Lung, there is a Ring of Neptune that will give Iron Lung to any character. You can sell it at the shop, buy it back and re-invoke it for someone else to have Iron Lung. You can keep doing this untill everyone has Iron Lung now that they do not need it anymore.

As for the Great Sword of Doom, it is one of the premier 2-handed weapons. I do not know of any curses on it and it does do massive damage. I have never been a big fan of 2 handed weapons so I don't use it much. I prefer the Tomonari Katana, which can be blessed up very well or my new favorite, BloodSlinger. Both are one-handed weapons with massive damage as well. But if you have The Great Sword of Doom and don't mind the 2 handed weapon, by all means use it. I do not believe that it is secretly draining you of an important attribute, such as fortitude or strength. If you managed to snag it while you can still use it, you are lucky. I have only seen it at the end of the game when you can't use it any more.

Thanks for advice re Iron Lung and Great Sword of Doom.

I have just spent another hour or so trawling around Brimloch Roon/Skull Island and got the grand total of 3 lagoon baracuda, 5 sharks, 7 Dartha Eels and 2 Crabs 'O Sea. Neither crab had a shell - my thief tried to steal from both of them, and they didn't drop any. And I only need ONE more! (because I'm going to take your advice and buy my Bard a breather). Spawn rate is on high, difficulty on hard and all that seems to be spawning is shoals of harmless little fishies. This game is trying my patience!

I got the Great Sword of Doom in my first exploratory trip around the coast out from Brimloch Roon, so I must have been lucky. I think it was from an encounter with Centaurs. I, too, usually steer clear of two-handed weapons, but I thought I'd try this one out as the damage range seemed quite good, then found out it was cursed. But soon the Paladin was dealing out huge damage, so I haven't bothered uncursing it.

The fact that so many good items and super-elite classes are only available at the end of the game when they are of no use to you is pretty frustrating. I guess you could play a Valkyrie or Zenmaster solo game, but I've heard that is surprisingly little fun, especially in the Crypt.

(I just got a pile of error messages when I tried to post this, so I'm trying again.)
