Thiefly tactics-
There's more to this world than the magic wand and the battle axe. There is the way of the mask and dagger, poison and stealth. Before any combat, send in a stealthed thief to scout the area. If you have the cape of non detection, that can help. You need then to identify the primary targets that need to be killed first. Magic users rank at the top of the list. Retreat just out of visual range. Now you execute a simple plan, a hit and run retreat. - Lay a staggered array of traps, heading AWAY from the enemy. - Summon some cannon fodder monsters, and lay them amongst the traps. - Bring up your best long range artillery ( like the Archer) and hold position just out of visual range. (variation- use a Mage with fireball, or a Druid with summon Insect Swarm. But don't cast yet!) - Move your stealthed thief into visual range of the closest enemy. Arrange the rest of the party in an ambush formation, behind the trap line. Equip missile weapons. CAst Melf's minute meteors, and stoneskins. Now to engagement- You begin with shooting the primary or closest target(your choice) and then retreating the archer/mage slowly along the trap line. As they chase him, the traps and lesser monsters will engage, slowing them. The archer can halt and snipe as he falls back. When the last of them pass the thief, you can then go ahead and let go a fine backstab on him. Perferably with a poisoned weapon. Switch your thief to a fast missile weapon, and open fire on the rear of the enemies as they blunder into your killing zone. Web and entangle them. Slow them with magic. Once all your weak monsters are dead, begin with area effect spells. I like Cloud Kill. Holy Smite is very good also. Abu DAlzim's Wilting is nasty. If there are any survivors, they will be weakened by the time they get to your tanks. An assassin armed with Bracers of Archery, a suitable IOUN stone and with archery skills can turn the Tuigan bow into a deadly hail of poison. |
