The cones in your retina are what you use to visualize color (which is just light with a specific wavelength); starlight it quite dim and filtered through the atmosphere, so color is not received very well. Besides, you cannot see any stars in the area of your blind spot, so peripheral vision actually has more input than direct line-of-sight.
Optical illusions are really fun, even from a philosphical point of view. The drawing of something that cannot exist does exist...conception without actualization. [img]graemlins/wow.gif[/img]
