Every person residing in the U.S. should know the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
I saw the Magna Carte, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution on display at the National Archives in Washington D.C. I felt fortunate to see the Magna Carta, as it was only on display/loan for a short time.

Mayhap we should get everyone post the key documents to the basic tennants of the respective governments [img]smile.gif[/img] Would be fascinating I think.

It's the Magna Carta. Forced upon King John by his rebellious Barons in 1215. Many of the articles are enshrined in the British constitution today and it is the underpinning of both our legal system and yours. It confirmed a freeman's right to trial by jury, Habeas Corpus, no arbitrary search and seizure, and equality before the law (including the King). Of course at the time the liberties granted were only granted to the powerful.

The Magna Carta was siezed upon by the American Colonists as justification of their claim for independence and is one of the source documents for both the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights.

The John F Kennedy Memorial is set on the site where it was signed.

And of course every schoolchild knows where the Magna Carta was signed.

There are only four original copies left of the Magna Carta. The one you saw was probably the one owned by Ross Perot.
