Im back after a very major PC crash - curses -

So after restarting I went with 1 Priest and 1 Wizard and got them to Level 9. Role changed both to Paladins
Now on reaching their first "Level Up" I have heaps of options but only ONE skill I can increase
So... I know what Scorcery does for me
What actually does Gallantry do for me?

Finally as I am building up the both the Priest/ Wizard skilss as well as Paladin skills, which one (Scorcery or Gallantry) should get my paltry point????

Cheers

Featherstone

Prowess lets you attack more quickly, and Gallantry lets you hit more often and do more damage. At higher levels, they really do make an impact.

I suggest adding your paltry point to whichever is lower on the skill chart. IOW, the lastest one on the list gets the nod. Why? Because it will be the first one rolled off the list when you have too many skills listed, and this is the only way they can be raised.

After the last one (prowess, IIRC) drops off, put points into the new last one. Save sorcery for last -- it always shows on the list, so you can always add points to it. At least, until you hit level 12 (or 14).

Always put the skill points in the skill that's going to drop off the list next. That's my rule, and I'm sticking to it.

My preferences are different. First Sorcery - because Sorcery fortifies strength of all your spells. It's a huge difference between Sorcery 1 and Sorcery 12. Then I improve Gallantry and Prowess simultaneously. Of course, I must not allow Gallantry and Prowess to roll out of the screen.
I think Gallantry and Prowess cannot improve you considerably if you fight under spells. The "killing machine cocktail" Frenzy + Heroic Might + Haste gives you a huge boost, a much more considerable boost that the boost from Gallantry and Prowess.

And that right there is part of why the game is so much fun -- different viewpoints and approaches to the same topic, and both of them right. I agree with you, Radek -- sorcery is definitely better the higher it is. What I've found is that sorcery never scrolls off my screen, while gallantry and prowess tend to be in danger of scrolling off.

I must confess I haven't tried the killing machine cocktail -- I think I'll have Missy down one of those shortly to see how much of a difference it makes.

but it's actually based on how the player wants to play the game :-
1. a player who prefers magic would want to increase sorcery first then followed by gallantry and prowness.
2. a player who prefers fighting physically would want to increase gallantry and prowness first.
3. ALSO, the character's class may affect the player's opinion too. for example, a warlock doesnt usually fight physically and tends to cast magic, so improving sorcery would be more important than gallantry and prowness!
hope all this helps!

Yes, I do agree. I think there are four base kinds of players:
- A "knight": These players prefer weapons and armor. They rely on their high number of HP and their excellent fighting abilities. They use magic only seldom.
- A "monk": These players are fighters which rely on "technical disciplines". They will wait behind a corner, steal to their victims and try to surprise it, and so on. They rely on their agility, speed and their special abilities. They use magic more often.
- A "priest": These players prefer fighting with weapons but with a support of a magic. They rely on defensive and fortifying magic. They are prepared to sacrifice some fighting abilities, HP, or armor to their spellcasting abilities. They are most content if they are under their defensive magic permanently
- A "mage": These players cast spells whenever they can. They prefer offensive magic to weapons. They fight with weapons only if they are forced to fight. Yes, they have heard about weapons and armor but they rely on their spellcasting abilities.
I am a "priest". Almost a pure "priest". That's why I always begin with Sorcery

I agree on the playing styles and other options. My point stems from this fact: in every game I have played, except perhaps my first one, sorcery was at or near 12 by the end of the game no matter when I started spending skill points on it. It goes up naturally by use, and it goes up specifically by allocating skill points. It also remains on the skill chart until the end of the game, and is, IIRC, the only non-trainable skill on there.

So that's a large part of the reason why I don't allocate points to it early; they'll be allocated later, and if I spend them all there early on, I won't be able to get some of the other skills up to a decent level. Missy currently has level 8 in Gallantry and 6 in Prowess (or vice versa); they will not rise any more in the game, as I don't see them reappearing (except perhaps when she moves to warlock).

I don't dispute the benefits of a greater sorcery level at all, and if I were able to update the other skills later, I'd definitely play differently.

And again: three opinions now, each of them correct. That's the beauty of the game.

sauce hurry is good to have high near the end of the game but I spend a lot of the game on cut & slash so I find it really annoying when I cant spend any more points on gallantry or prowess. I am like Bungleau in that I spend my points on whatever is on the bottom of the skills list. A lot of things can be trained in guilds so I don't spend precious points on them when I can buy the points.
As always the choice is yours, that is one of the things that makes W&W so addictive.

Thank you for the replies
Im not going to judge the replies as all are quite correct in their own particular way

Also I do like the look of that cocktail: Frenzy Heroic Might and Haste
Hope it tastes good
