The Good News: This is the first company I have worked for that grants EVA bonuses, based on our last year's Net Income...or something like that. Everybody gets 5%, plus my supervisor gave me an additional percentage, based on his percpective of what I should have. Thus, I was granted $1,865.00!

The Bad news: The government has the right to 43% of that.

My question is ...Why? What is the official reason? I have alot of ideas from people, but nothing real. Thanks in advance for your input.

But Larry how can they feed perfectly healthy people who dont want to work, pay highway workers to stand around, and buy multi-million dollar weapon systems like the 70 ton Paladin howitzer thats outmoded without your help? As a matter of fact I think you should just go ahead and give it all to Uncle Sam. It would alturistic of you

The only "official" reason is likely to be "because that is the law". Why are the laws written that way? Because people still think that taking money away from those who earn it or have it and doling it out in governmental programs is a worthwhile notion. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for trying to help those who are indeed less fortunate, but being taxed and seeing no immediate benefit from the tax is one of the reasons people in early America decided to revolt. Whenever you come between people and their money, trouble soon follows; I know I would question a 43% tax....

WOW!

I didn't realize the tax on bonuses was so high. I know "winnings", like in the lottery and other forms of gambling, are taxed at nearly 50%, but I had no idea bonuses were so vulnerable. ;(

Well damn, Lord of Alcohol!
If you needed the money, why should I waste time sending it to you through the govt. system?
All you had to do was ask, and I would have wrote you out a check!

For those of you that don't know...LoA lives about an hour from my house, and he knows my home address. I would never mean anything insulting to him, as he would be knocking on my door too quickly for my liking!

The problem in North Carolina has nothing to do with the federal government. It can be explained with 3 words...Gov. Easly SUCKS!

The Gov. refused to return, to the counties and municipalities, the monies owed them again this year. I don't mean monies the state promised to give, but monies that actually belong to the counties, et al. Monies that the state offered to collect for them a few years ago. Now we see why the state made the offer! They originally said it was because they could do a better job of collection, which in turn would be good for the state, but it's become obvious that it's because they wanted to confiscate it.

Firemen, police officers, EMS personel, and other workers, in my county, are being forced to take off days without pay between now and July 1 (the beginning of the new budget year) to cover the difference in local budgets. My office is considering the same thing. They are being forced to take days without pay when they are owed compensation (for days worked without pay so they could be paid for days off later), vacation, holiday, and sick days.

He did this crap last year, but released the funds 2 or 3 months later. This time, who knows? Our county and cities will not count the money the state owes them in their next budget year, which means a shortfall, and in turn, no raises, no hiring, no training, no nothing.

Again, this is not money the state gives to the counties and cities, this is money that is owed to them by the state that so generously offered to collect the funds.

You know what makes it worse? I voted for this LOSER! He took one big problem (the states budget shortfall), and made thousands of other big problems.

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who ever wanted to see me post about how the government is screwed up.....ENJOY!

I'm sorry but I dont think anyone was talking about a specific state, but only federal government. Lets not try and turn this thread into a state bashing thread. I know that state governments don't always do whats right. My state is in trouble too, but lets try and not bash where someone is from.
