This one's for Barry The Sprout

From Chase's calendar of events:

Communist Manifesto
February 26, 1848

Written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels on the eve of the revolutions of 1848, the Manifesto provided ideas for socialist and communist movements.

BTW, I don't want anyone to think my posting of this is a crack of any kind. It is not. I came across it this morning at the station and thought he might find this historical note interesting. (Isn't it a shame the disclaimer is almost as long as the post )

Barry probably knows this. The Communist manifesto was written by Marx and Engles in a room over the Red Lion pub in St John's Street in Islington, London. This would be of little importance if it wasn't for the fact that Barry lives only a few hundred yards away from it! I spent many years drinking in the downstairs bar! I didn't do much political writing! The pub doesn't exist anymore - I think it's a japanese restaurant now.

Yeah, I'm sure that one sentance description from Chase's does no justice to Barry's knowledge of the document, but sometimes the anniversary of historical events get over-looked, so I thought I'd mention it.

Very cool info about his location in relation to this, and your visit to the bar! I'm sure creating any historic document there won't be looked on quite the same in the future. Politics over sushi anyone?

LOL, I don't think that Capitalism has much to worry about, if its enemies can't even spell it right.

This statement is extremely funny to me because communist countries are encouraging business to move in. They have seen that a country can't make money without and businesses that don't (make money).
Its all fine-having factories that make a loss each year just to keep people in work but it doesn't work if all your factories do that.
I think Janus has the wrong idea about what communism really is, but then again not many people do.

Maybe you didn't stop to think that Communism was a good theory, but the way it was carried out was wrong.
If it had been done differently, say without the politicians having obscene amounts of money compared to normal people and there wasn't as much corruption, they wouldn't be in the huge debts and problems they are now.
Also, I think your last statement is offensive to people who think Marx's ideas are good.

You know, neither Sovjet, China, Cuba and so further did/does have pure marxistic comunism. In sovjet it was first leninism, followed by stalinism, which also cuba is is using. in china, maoism reigns.

Khazadman, have you even read it? Otherwise, you can't really say it is crap.

The fact that people in comunistic countrys suffer isn't that they live in a communism, it is because they are ruled by a dictator.
Hitler and die Nationalsocialistiche Deutshe Arbeiterpartei (spl?) was to the right, as was Mussolini.
The russian Tsar who was overthrowned by the boljeviks, was one of the most hated men in europe at that time. His relative, the king/ruler of england didn't even dare to let him into his country when the Tsar noticed that his life was in danger, because he feared riots in his own country then. The Tsar was conservative, to the right. His people suffered as much as they did under a communistic goverment to the left.

I don't think that communism is bad. But I also think capitalism is good. A mix of both is the best, in my belives.
