If you go to the NWN web site they will tell you there is no release date and guesses by shops really have no truth behind them.

BG2 was a very solid game, I expect NWN will be no different... the only risk they run is that by release the graphics will be dated.

When I first saw the NWN graphics last summer I thought they totally rocked.

I just took another look at the exact same screen caps last week and now they're only looking OK. The rest of the world is not standing still waiting for these guys to get their act together. There are some top notch 3d games out there right not that are really pushing the envelope. 3D shooters like Medal of Honor and Alice already crush what NWN looks like, and there's "Immersive 3d World" games like Operation Flashpoint that have intereactive worlds with hundreds of square miles of contiguous real estate (no region loading... no cut scenes... just a HUGE highly detailed world to explore)... AND better graphics than NWN. They seriously run the risk of being left behind if they don't get this game on the shelves post haste.

It's just a matter of time before someone licenses the OFP engine (or something similar) and creates a fantasy world instead of the OUTSTANDING military sim that's it's current flavor. (The first real FP military sim for the PC IMO)

I'm still looking forward to the game... but a little bit less every day.

As an addendum... they're pretty serious about the "no release date" thing...

Here it is, finally, this summer seems to be a "valid" date, as far as that goes concerning NWN!

Here is the official blurb from Bioware about the summer release date:

"BioWare's new publishing partner, Infogrames, has just announced in their press release that Neverwinter Nights will be launched worldwide in Summer, 2002. We apologize for the delay in getting back to you during the day today - we want to try to clarify this date announcement since so many people have been posting about it on the message boards.

Please understand that we are committed to releasing games when they are finished, polished and ready for the world. For a game as complex, epic and multifaceted as Neverwinter Nights, this is especially the case. The massive scope and flexibility intrinsic in the Toolset, the DM Client and the Official Campaign will be unprecedented in the gaming world and, as a result, we must carefully test every aspect of Neverwinter Nights. With a new publisher, there is a new plan for marketing, QA, localization and distribution.

To that end, BioWare and Infogrames now feel that Summer 2002 (which could mean as early as May or June) is a good conservative estimate of the distribution date - guaranteeing a game worthy of the quality inherent under the titles of Dungeons and Dragons, Infogrames and BioWare. We are still aiming for the same development completion targets that we were aiming for in the past, but Infogrames and BioWare both want to provide a safe target window for the game to be ready in terms of the things that are covered by the publisher working in conjunction with the development team - distribution, localization, marketing and testing.

Thanks - as always as we get more information we'll update you. Our fans are very important to us.
