Personally, I found IWD pretty boring, so I quit after the Vale of Shadows for a new game of BGII.
But i'm not much into hack n' slash anyway, so tell me what you think. |

Played IWD more times than BG2. It just really appealed to me (not the hack n slash bit, though that was nice, but the environments and everything..Baldur's Gate was all browns and greys..)

Planescape beats them all, but that wasn't the question, right? Maybe an idea for a different poll, but anyways:
I prefer BG2 over IWD any time of day. Why? I'm not sure, with BG2 there's much more freedom... The game isn't as linear, you don't have to chop through hordes of the same type of characters over and over again (biggest problem with IWD is that you don't deal with one extremely strong enemy, but with about a dozen tough ones, which isn't only worse to handle but also not half as satisfaying to chop through as is the case with a normal 'boss') , and frankly I like the diversity of quests in BG2 a lot, while IWD hardly has any. Replayability? Many people state that IWD was better due to its replayability, but that's certainly not the case with me personally. I've finished BG2 about 7 times, IWD only twice. And halfway with my third attempt, including Trials of the Luremaster, but I haven't played that one in the last few months... No, personally I prefer BG2.

Hmm, I have to say BG2, more fluent game engine, better items and also "feels" more playable and a bit more interesting. IWD feels a bit too much as a dungeon crawl, but with the HOW add on its ok, but the story is more compelling in BG2, than in IWD.
And by the way, you want to play with six characters.. start a multiplayer game and create all six characters, save and then move that folder to the save folder instead and voila, six personalized characters for BG2 all the way to TOB if you all like! I usually make three characters on my own and fill up the rest with possible romance or scrap for making the personal quests for the different characters..

Well I like IWD but BG2 is 1000 times better, more freedom, greater story, cooler weapons and enemies... and IWD's ending is horribly disapointing...
But IWD is still a great game... |

I played IWD many more times through than BG2. It is a lot of fun for easy going entertainment. Especially with a high level cleric who could destroy undead, just run into a room and hear them scream as they get turned to dust. great fun. I can't wait for IWD2.

I preferred IWD - great scenery, great music, create your own party without feeling that you might be missing out on some NPC interaction (even though the NPC might not be up to much otherwise!!)
Different bardsongs, that was great.

Yeah BG2 has a better story, but I actually IWD had some cooler weapons. Anyway IWD was way to linear. You didn't have any freedom. You went to Point A, to get this item, to get to point B. So BG2 was better. Besides you had more kits and spells to play with. Hopefully IWD2 will come with those improvements.
