Exclamation

Scientists at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center used fiber-optic cables to transfer 6.7 gigabytes of data -- the equivalent of two DVD movies -- across 6,800 miles in less than a minute. The center is a national laboratory operated by Stanford University for the U.S. Department of Energy.....(Complete story at the link below)

Totally amazing. ME WANT!!! So it'll be; how fast your PC is, determines your download speed. The IDE bus will need to be like clocked at like... 40Ghz or something wild like that! And the Hard Drives of today couldn't even TRY to write Gigs to the HD that fast!! Even those ultra fast 10,000RPM SCSI and IDE's. lol!!

Oh well, it's a long way off, but hey--10 years ago we were on 386's. Remember? And those were the 'Elite' PC users! Just think what we will have in 10 years from NOW?! One never knows....

That's basically a gigabit ethernet connection... big wup!
That whoopdeedoo connection would support maybe a couple hundred run of the mill cable modem connections before it started to bog down. The internet backbone needs to suport HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of run of the mill cable modem connections within the next 10 years. Have no fear the the vaunted internet will be able to outtransfer your $80.00 IDE hard drive anytime soon.
