Funny. I was just wondering the same thing myself. I thought those helms were useless! From now on, my ID2 characters will go bareheaded into the fray -- at least, unless something good comes along. HoF mode probably has some cheesy hats for the characters...

Actually, all of the HoF helms are simply beefed up versions of the normal helms AFAIK. I haven't run across anything NEW in HoF so far, just modified versions of other items.

Lol, "AFAIK"?!
And I think it was better in ID1: non-magical helms should profer at last the protection against criticals. It's only logical! |

AFAIK = As Far as I Know
It's been too long since I played PnP 2nd Ed D&D, but I don't think helmets prevented critical hits in the rules, although they did in IWD1. Actually, I'll take my chances on getting a critical hit on my characters from time to time IF they can do the same to others.

I agree with Micah. IIRC, I remember JE Sawyer (IWD1 & IWD2 lead designer) commenting on this topic and saying that helm protecting against critical hits was a BG addition, not a DnD thing.

Dont forget that in iwd 1 only warriors could use helms... here everyone can... so if it was protecting from critical hits it wouldve been too powereful... like Micah said... if i can score critical hits its only fair the monsters can too..

I remember vaguely, but helms in this game doesn't seem to add to your AC. which is different from other rpg.

I found a large vial of stuff that gave my bard 1 permanent resistance to acid (or was it magic?)and resistance to something else also. No other attribute was reduced in the process. This potion was found near the crash site.

Because helmets are pretty useless I had Oswald make several wolf hats for me. At least I received some cold protection and a carisma boost. BTW, the cold protection stacked with the cloak but the carisma did not.
