...is that for the five odd days since opening, it's been consistently sold out right through Manhattan. Even tonight, a monday night, the only session with tickets was the last one at 11:15.

Buggah!

Looks like it'll be a record breaker I suppose.

But that's cool.

I know what you mean Yorrrick - last year for FOTR I got up on the first day expecting a crush, went to the 9:45 am session and the place was half full. With the Two Towers, the hype has been so intense that apparently I can't get into the 9:45am first session on opening day (Dec 26th) this year (and gee, I gave them a good 42 hours notice that I wanted to be there too )- I have to go to the 10:45 session in theatre two, or wait till 1:30 for the 2nd session in the main hall - talk about your inconvenience - I'm not happy

Looks like its going to be even more popular than the last film. When i went to see the FOTR on boxing day last year (opening day), the line for entry went from cinema 1 all the way back to cinema 9 and out into the lobby! I wont be able to see the Two Towers till after the new year

I got tickets about a week ahead. The I arrived late (read - only 1/2 hour before the start) and had to sit about 3 rows back and I really need to see it again with decent seats. But definately worth the hassle.

A Towering $101.5 Million

The Two Towers lorded it over all other films at the weekend box office as it accounted for an estimated $61.5 million in ticket sales. The results for the Lord of the Rings sequel brought the film's five-day gross to $101.5 million. By contrast, last year's The Fellowship of the Ring took in $85 million over a comparable five-day period. Two Weeks Notice, this weekend's No. 2 film, earned just 23 percent of Towers' take, $14.4 million. However, the verdict was out on Miramax's Gangs of New York, which debuted with $9.1 million. Although today's (Monday) Wall Street Journal described the bow as "disappointing," Daily Variety portrayed the $6,064 per-screen average as "solid" and pointed out that it was second only to Rings among the top-10 leaders. Another new film, the kids flick The Wild Thornberrys Movie from Paramount, earned just $6.1 million, but studio execs predicted an upsurge in business during the holiday period. All of the new releases turned out to be the nemesis for the new Star Trek movie, which dropped like a stricken starship to $4.4 million, 76 percent below last week's take.

I live in a small town, so I lucked out. When I went to see it @10AM opening day there were 100-150 people in the theater that seats 450. Not bad considering school was still in session.

I meant to ask the manager how many showed up for the premier midnight showing of TTT but forgot. I know about 200 showed last year for LotR midnight show, and I have to imagine more showed up this year.

When I went Saturday morning at 10AM there were about 350. It's showing on two screens in the afternoons and evenings, but I'd still hate to see how packed those shows are...

I got my ticket the day Harry Potter opened. Wed. 12pm. I took off work that day. I had no problem with seating, and only a few cut-class girls were sitting in front of me...so they were too little to obscure my vision of the screen.
