Starting up a thread for all the hyenas out there. Hope this is OK with Yorick and our other esteemed 'Alpha Hyenas' If I'm treading on anybodies toes, just take me out back and shoot me. (j/k).

I am feeling ambitious today, trying to shrug off that autumnal hibernation feeling. So here are some ideas for projects for us hyenas. I would like to hear the views of my fellow hyenas.

Project 1
Humour and Inspiration
Find those jokes, poems, songs, anything that helps you get through the day.
While we hyenas enjoy serious debate, we must not forget our mission to subvert the Ironworks using our subtle humour and inspirational talents.

Project 2
A Home for the Hyenas.
Yes, our home is of course here at the Ironworks. But there was talk a while ago of a clan website. It would be good to discuss ideas for content and design so we can get started (or continue apace if someone already started this). I would suggest it should include pages dedicated to Project 3 below if my fellow hyenas are agreeable. I am happy to help out with design etc, and I think I have unlimited webspace at my disposal.

Project 3
NWN Multiplayer for the Hyenas
Who would be interested in playing multi once NWN is out?
Would anyone be interested in playing a module specifically designed for our needs? My idea is this - a small adventure for multiplayer aimed at bards, rogues and allies thereof. Where humour, charm and roguesome light-fingeredness are the main skills required to complete the quests, backed up with a bit of combat and casting. I am happy to (attempt to) design/make the thing, but these projects are best done by teamwork. So I need:

a. Would you be interested in playing such an adventure once NWN comes out?

b. Ideas please - what would you, as players, like to see. Just initial thoughts at this stage.

c. Would you like to help? My intention is for a small adventure (hey, I have a full time job ya know) for very low level characters, but with the potential for more adventures to be added should the need/demand/time arise. Any assistance, large or small, would be useful.

Non-hyenas are welcome to participate, but bear in mind that our bard lovers needs are paramount.

If making suggestions for more than one project, please label your ideas 'NWN' or 'Website' to enable me to sort out the ensuing melting pot of brilliance.

Yes, of course 250. As long as the end result is something that hyenas are happy with, it's fine by me, I'll take any help going. And your ideas for custom items would be most welcome. Think bard items

Two Days We Should Not Worry
by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry,
two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares,
its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.

We cannot undo a single act we performed;
we cannot erase a single word we said.
Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow
with all its possible adversities, its burdens,
its large promise and its poor performance;
Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise,
either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise.
Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow,
for it is yet to be born.

This leaves only one day, Today.
Any person can fight the battle of just one day.
It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities
Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad,
it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, Live but one day at a time.

Friendship vs. Love
by: Nathan Stutte, Source Unknown

Friendship is a quiet walk in the park with the one you trust
Love is when you feel like you are the only two around

Friendship is when they gaze into your eyes and you know they care
Love is when they gaze into your eyes and it warms your heart

Friendship is being close even when you are far apart
Love is when you can still feel their hand on your heart when they are not near

Friendship is hoping that they experience the very best
Love is when you bring them the very best

Friendship occupies your mind
Love occupies your soul

Friendship is knowing that you will always try to be there when in need
Love is when you will give up everything to be at their side

Friendship is a warm smile in the winter
Love is a warming touch that sends a pulse through your heart

Love is a beautiful smile to which nothing compares
A tender laugh, which opens your heart
A single touch that melts away your fears
A smell that reminds you of the tenderness of heaven
A voice that reminds you of the innocence of youth

Friendship can survive without love
Love cannot live without friendship

as a son, I'd love to give this to all loving parents in the world:

Prayer for His Son, A
by: Douglas MacArthur, More Sower's Seeds

Build me a son, O Lord,
who will be strong enough to know when he is weak,
brave enough to face himself when he is afraid,

Build me a son,
whose wishes will not take the place of deeds...
Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort,
but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenges.

Let him learn to stand in the storm;
let him learn compassion for those who fall.

Build me a son,
whose heart is clear, whose goals will be high
a son who will master himself before he seeks to master others;
who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things aer his, add, I pray,
enough of a sense of humor
so that he may always be serious
yet never take himeself too seriously...

Then, I, his father will dare to whisper,
"I have not lived in vain."

God Made Part of Me
by: Brian Cavanaugh, T.O.R., The Sower's Seeds

"Can you tell me who made you?" the pastor asked the small boy.

The Youngster thought a moment. Then he looked up at the pastor and said, "God made part of me."

"What do you mean, part of you?" asked the pastor.

"Well," answered the boy, "God made me little. I grew the rest myself."

"Growing the rest" is a lifetime job for everyone.

Sermons We See
by: Edgar A. Guest, Source Unknown

I'd rather see a sermon
Than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me
Than merely tell the way.

The eye's a better pupil
And more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing,
But example's always clear.

And the best of all the preachers
Are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put into action
Is what everybody needs.

When I see a deed of kindness,
I am eager to be kind.
When a weaker brother stumbles
And a strong man stands behind;

Just to see if he can help him,
Then the wish grows strong in me
To become as big and thoughtful
As I know that friend to be.

And all travelers can witness that
The best of guides today
Is not the one who tells them,
But the one who shows the way.

and to all my buddies here
and last to myself, I hope this can be a motto of my life

Humor Can Save Your Life
by: Michael Angier, , Success Networks

The story goes that a certain court jester went too far one day and insulted his king. The king became so infuriated he sentenced the jester to be executed. His court prayed upon the king to have mercy for this man who had served him well for so many years. After a time, the king relented only enough to give the jester his choice as to how he would like to die. True to form, the jester replied, "If it's all the same to you, my Lord, I'd like to die of old age." Certainly in this case, a good sense of humor saved the man's life. It's true for us as well. We may not be faced with a situation where our wit will save us from an execution, but our sense of humor and the ability to laugh at things has proven health benefits that extend and improve our quality of life. Norman Cousins, in his book Anatomy of an Illness, wrote about how he cured himself of cancer by laughing a good part of each day. He rented films of comedies and watched them for hours on end in his hospital room. He had nothing to lose since he'd been diagnosed as terminal. His "experiment" turned out to be a classic example of the healing powers of laughter. If it worked for Cousins with a life-threatening illness, it can work for us to enhance and protect our good health. We should laugh often and heartily. It's good for our digestion and our disposition. Besides, life's too important to take seriously.
