thats very wise

and on top of that, I'd like to add is, a disaster often is a moment in which life clashs against death, in which we recongize our mortality in the lose of others. recongition is always a shocking experience

another way of looking at it, Stephen King said "Horror is the finest human emotion". Being the twisted lead writer of horror stories, his words ring truth. perhaps there is a part of us desire horror. we are fascinated by this experience as well as shocked. the part which we are not rooted in the light of worldly lives, but in the dark places where twisted images lure. perhaps thats a part of us all along.

I think that the bad memories in life are the one's most remembered and not taken for granted like all of the miracles in life. The mind only forgets the things it wishes to not remember. That is how humans survive. Unfortunetly there is a part of ourselves in each of us, which cannot forget the memories we would rather not keep. And these energies can be built up, and sometimes released into more primative emmotions. Only the most brilliant of minds and self controlled individuals can use this power for greater things...

Well..... I suppose it might be because it makes us feel better about our own situation: "Hey, we might be poor. But at least we didn't just die in a car accident like that poor bastard."

Here's another example, when a person in trouble shouts "help" chances are nobody shows up, but if that person would shout "fire" people come running from everywhere. Humans are weird !

It is natural human curiosity. Us humans are strange in that we study things we don't understand because we are curious. No other thing on the planet does such things (I don't believe) so that makes us unique and strange. Curiosity can often turn into a dangerous situation (such as the one described where firefighters couldn't get to the people because people were staring at the fire.), but eventually gives us more wisdom.

I agree with Neb. People who are inside a burning building suffer from fear AND excitement. While spectators get the excitement without the fear, for they are not involved.

With the risk of being a troll - are you trying to be funny or are you an idiot? It seems to me that your post is a deliberate attempt to 'destroy' my thread.

I was trying to start a serious discussion about peoples fascination with accidents and disasters - the fire was just an example.

Yes please do accept his apology (And there´s no offense here!!). I just think there´s been enough angry words in here lately, especially about religion. Now why don´t we all join hands and sing a nice song? But that would be to much to hope for right? Heated discussions and angry words seems to be an attraction too, lol!

No, that doesn't seem like too much to ask... *grabs Willow's and Volguuz's hands* Now, what kind of song did you have in mind?

How about the one that goes 'Julia, Julia...' the one you feel so inclined to sing when you've over-indulged in the magic mushroom department?
