Since I saw on this board about switching the graphics mode to software to fix some problems, I decided to check out my settings. Mine defaulted to Software when I installed it so I changed it a higher resolution and was surprised at how much better it looked. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also,
One of the coolest things I've seen is spending a long time in a dungeon and trying to get out with your life and party intact. Coming up the stairs you can see some sunlight streaming in thru a distant door. Then walking out into the fresh air and sunlight you get a feeling of 'WHEW, I made it.' What a sense of accomplishment.

I love this game...

Benihaha - Isn't it great??

I love the "environment" of this game - really adds a lot to the playing! Thanks for sharing - think I will reset my own settings. Got a new vid card a while back and never thought to really try it out!

I know the feeling... I was about to burst into tears (not really, but you get the idea) when I reached the end of the stout mines and saw daylight again...

The Stout Mines are enough to reduce you to tears! lol!!

(twisty, winding passages that all look the same) - anyone remember Zork?

I'm confused...are you saying you switched to a higher resolution in software mode? I did not think it was possible to play in any higher than 640x480 when using software. It was my understanding that you had to switch to D3D to get anything higher than 640x480.

Yes, I played zork, also Adventure, I had to hack to database to figure that one out. Yes, I hacked the zil formats on an IBM PC back in the early 80's. I played adventure on a IBM 360 mainframe in 1971. I've become almost a familar with the Gael Serran as with those worlds.

Sorry Glycerine, I guess I wasn't clear the way I worded it. I meant that when I installed the game it defaulted to SOFTWARE mode but I changed it to the D3D with the highest setting. I don't remember which one it was but I think it was 1024 X 7something.

Actually, the graphics are great at 1024 x 768, but they're not the same as software mode. There are places where the graphics are very different in the two modes. With software mode showing different details.

Example (spoilers Ahead)

The Lich chained to the wall in Cet's pyramid is looks like the standing there with his arms stretched out in D3D mode. But in software mode you can see that his heart has been ripped out with blood all over him.

Maybe we should start a new tread with the major differences between the modes.

dlimbaugh - interesting idea! Wonder how many players have tried the different graphic modes. I haven't so far but really think I should!
