Hello,

I've just decided to make an archer. And I would like some advice on what type of archery weapon i should specialize in, or in other words... what is the best archery weapon(s) in the game? In the past I've always specialized in longbows, but the best bow I seem to have come across is the Elven court bow, not a bad bow at all.. but there must be something better

Peace

The big problem with longbows is the lack of high-enchanted ammunition. For that purpose, I suggest the shortbow, you have one bow that gives +3 ammunition, and one that gives +4. Crossbows are even worse, you have no hope to ever get anything higher than +2.

NB. If you have ToB, you can get +3 ammo for all ranged weaponry, so then you don't have to worry.

just like JRKSparrow said, wait until TOB before doing an archer, as watcher's keep has quivers (unlimited ammo) for +5 as well i think

For certain items, yes. But Quivers of Plenty can only go up to +2. My suggestion? Use a certain bow that uses auto-enchanted +3 for the Golems, and another bow that gives 3 attacks per round for all of the other beasties. Until you assemble another bow that gives lightning arrows. If you have ToB, then give the Quiver of Plenty and use it with the bow that gives lightning arrows for more pain.

(Yes, that was confusing to read. Imagine how confusing that was to type up. )

The bows you mention Assasin are shortbows right?
So putting stars in shortbows would be the best?

Oh, and I have ToB..

One of the best bows you can get is the Tansheron's bow (longbow). It has unlimited ammo, and you can get it pretty early in the game.

Yes. And the Tansheron's Bow is a shortbow, and is the bow that spews out a torrent of +3 arrows without ever having to recharge it.

However, there probably are some neat Longbows out there, I just haven't bothered to ever use one.

Crossbows aren't half bad either, I just prefer Bows in all AD&D games...

Elven Court Bow is pretty good. There are several better long bows (including composite long bows).

Heartseeker you should be able to get relatively early on (Windspear Hills). Its regular enchantment isn't as good as the Eleven Court Bow but its special ability gives a temporary THAC0 bonus of (IIRC) 7.

The best long bow in SoA is the Mana Bow, but you can't get it until chapter 6 (Forest of Tethir).

The other bows mentioned in this thread are short.

There are some great crossbows but they (almost all) suffer from a poor speed factor.

In the Forest of Tethir, in a cave in the SE corner.
