A clear starlit night in the city of Stathen. It was summer and the air was warm, a small group of hooded and cloaked figures snuck through the warm night towards the majestic Cathedral of Kyan in the center of the city.

As they reached the low wall surrounding the Cathedral and it's grounds the group's leader stopped. He turned around and surveyed the others, checking to see if everyone was there.

After making sure that they'd all made it there he took a grappling hook attached to a long rope from beneath his cloak, a quick throw secured it to the top of the wall. He started scaling the wall, the others followed behind.

(OOC: Feel free to join everyone, as either one of the hooded and cloakeds or as someone inside the cathedral, or as something else.

The members of the small group are all thieves, by profession at least, you can be a warrior or a thief if you're one of them, but not a mage or cleric

There are no mages on this world, clerics wield only healing magic, druids also exist, there are no psionics either.)

T'Shen jumped lightly down from the wall and landed on the other side, he was obscured from view by some bushes and trees that grew close to the wall and was able to watch the monks and clerics patrolling the grounds while remaining unobserved.

He motioned for the others to hurry up and get over the wall. He would normally never have accepterd a job to steal from the worshippers of Kyan, but in this case the pay was enough that he and the others could retire after just this one job.....

5 million gold pieces..... It never occurred to him that such a large reward was unlikely payment just for something as simple as stealing a scepter.....

Logèl tugged his gloves into place and gritted his teeth. Slowly, he made his way to the top. Once there, he shook his hands to relieve the pain. The rope bit straight through and dug into his hands. He'd go have a word with the man who made them if he'd actually payed for them.
Climbing was not his favourite part of the 'job'. Mostly, he preferred to stay on the ground, put some pretties from one pocket to another without anyone noticing, or at least assigning only the items on the first floor a new owner.
Still, there was good money in this, and a more permanent position with the brotherhood. If that meant a little pain, he'd take the hurting.

Py picked up his pipe and paked it with tobacco..
*Hey Frila, when's the next guard gonna go on, I'm so tired I could fall asleep standing.*, he asked the guard standing next to him..
Frila told him that they would come in about half an hour..
This was gonna the longest half hour Py had ever experienced in his guarding life..

OOC>Py's a warrior-monk born in the temple, but not a follower of Kyan, he just lives there and in exchange for food and lodging he guards the temple. I will post stats later

T'Shen and his small band of thieves had reached the wall of the Cathedral unnoticed and were standing under one of the huge glass mosaic windows discussing the best way to proceed when suddenly the great glass window shattered.

Some sort of flying beast had flown through it from the inside, clutched in it's claws T'Shen saw a golden scepter.... His 5 million gold.... He pointed towards it and shouted, "Follow that thing! It's got the loot!"

The creature flew no more than seven feet above the ground and was heading towards the wall surrounding the Cathedral, already monks and clerics, alerted by the noise, were heading towards the area, intent on stopping both the creature and the thieves.

Shen hurled a throwing knife at the creature, missing badly and almost hitting a monk(Py).

(OOC: The creature is a gargoyle-ish thing, stony skin and such, also very, very ferocious.)

Logèl pulled free the iron reinforced rope and tossed one end at the creature in the hopes of snaring it. The plan might have worked, if he'd taken the time to make it into a lasso or put some weight on the end, but now the rope flew a miserably short distance and didn't hit a thing.
As he pulled it back in, he noticed the gathering crowd. Deciding he didn't want to be caught for appearing to be a potentially suspicious person in the vincinity of a certain portion of Kyan's holy ground, he dove for the shadows, dark-grey cloak flapping behind him.
They didn't have to take the thing from the beast right now, it'd probably be a better idea to follow. It'd be safer too.

Realizing that they'd need to fly to catch the creature T'Shen grabbed hold of the nearest members of his group of thieves, Rogovich, Logél and Py(He mistook him for one of the thieves.), and dragged them off through the night towards the Gryphon Stables.

No guards were there, they'd all rushed off to see what was happening near the Cathedral, the T'Shen grabbed four Gryphons for them, the large creatures were unhappy at being awakened so late at night but grumpily allowed the four riders to saddle them.

They took off and quickly spotted the creature with the scepter. The four followed it but were unable to gain much on it, it flew northwards and they followed.....

Py didn't have a clue of what was going on..
One minute he had been falling asleep on his guard, and the next he had almost been killed by a giant Reptile..
And now he was tailing along a few thieves running for their lives..
Then again, so was Py, the reptile seemed to be after him as well..
But now probarbly wasn't the right moment to reveal his identity..
He kept running with the tieves, who had not yet realized who he was..

He didn't understand what their leader planned on doing once they caught up with the beast, but Logèl assumed it'd be something to worry about once they actually did.
Trying to impress the leader, he assumed his best 'useless henchman' accent (obviously every important thief needs stupid and useless henchmen, or they'd have died out ages ago. They haven't.)

"Yo, boss! If that thing ain't turnin' to stone when the sun comes up, how's we ever gonna catch it? These giant chickens are too small for us big people 'n we're goin' way too slow now."

Logèl clung to the saddle as the beast made a half-hearted attempt to shake him. He muttered something like a "No offence to the chickens" under his breath in an attempt to sooth the beast, which got him another shake.
