Pickpocketing advice

i've given back stolen items a couple of times with no ill results, just the usual 'gee thankns just what I needed', but have had bards (high comm skill) in the party. but at the same time, the high comm skill doesn't get threaten/friendly results. i will try with charm. this is on expert, latest patch.

Well, babar, most of the things I discussed were worked out when my Bard was still a bit inexperienced in the communication department and I haven't bothered to re-check later. It worked, so why fix it - know what I mean? I'm happy to be able to pick up free spellbooks with some regularity, so I haven't been 'training' for a while.

I play normal mode and, although I have no patches, I do have the latest version of the game. Not modified in any way.
