Um okay that is a little strange but thats just my opinion. Well it would only work if you do the following
-Make the character a Lawful Good Alignment. That is the only choice of Alignment for Paladins. -You need like a very high stats on almost everything. Wisdom when multiclassing into a cleric and Paladin. Strength for the fighter and Paladin. Charisma for the Paladin when turning undead. Constitution: The main backbone of any fighter when fighting up front. Or don't spend so much on it if you are going to use ranged attacks most of the time. Dexterity and Intellgence you don't need to spend so much. Well maybe intellgence if you want a lot of skill points in Concentraiton. (When you get hit concentraiton tells whether your spellcasting is disrpted or you countinue on casting ye spell) I believe that this won't work very well. I think that you would get an XP penalty if you multiclass more than 2. But I am not postive though. Anyway why not multiclass Fighter/Paladin: Surperb figher and has a few clerical powers. Bad thing is that if you start out Paladin and multiclass into another class besides painbearer you won't be able to level further in Paladin. Paladin/Painbearer: An decent fighter with surperb spells as you level up. And I think with more turn undead ablities. I am sure you can figure out the last I always object when having classes of three.

SPOILER
* * * * * * * * * * * * * there is only one situation i can remember where you get xp for being ilmater-worshipper, in kuldahar when you clear and cleanse the graveyard and purify the statuette of ilmater. but you dont need to be cleric for this, paladin can do as well. the ilmater-ritual in sewered hand can be done by every character i think. i dont see the advantage to be cleric AND paladin of ilmater ... i'd say drop one.
