Description:

Long time ago, in Daggerdale of the western Dalesland lived a special talented charlatan named Neex Xazop. It is said his vision was blessed by Lady Tymora that he could see the tiny objects miles away, or reflection of any image from even the dullest metal surface.

He often loved playing pokers, and he never played a game with out gambling. His opponents discovered no matter how hard they try to best Neex, even they cheat, they could never won a game against Neex. Some times, one of the players would use up all his wits to hide a good hand, hoping to gain upper hand at the end of the game, Neex could always play his cards just slightly better. Like this, Neex truely made a fortune out of his gift. For twenty years, adventurers, magicians, rogues, even famous kings visited him, and played games with him hoping to witness the miracle skills of Neex. And Neex gammbled things from as little as small amount of coins to as big as valuable artifacts, he never lost a single game. People gave him a name Neex the Prophetic.

One day, Neex was about to finish his daily work and go to bed. A dark shadowy hooded stranger appeared at his door way asking Neex to play a game. Neex thought for a moment, then agreed, but the stranger must show his face. Slowly, the hooded stranger moved his hands, which looked like a dried decayed woods with many cracks ran over, to take off the hood. Neex was stunned at the sight of the old man, though absolutely ageless, standing in front of him. The man's face was hollowed, corrupted, with two eyes shrink down deeply on the crack-covered skull, and the eyeballs were so dark that they seemed to be two holes themselves. Though dark the eyes were, the darkness seem to be burning like a black fire, devouting everything they caught in sight. Neex, though surprised, was not overwhelmly scared. He looked into the stranger's eyes, and he saw himself, then he smiled. As long as the eyes reflect images, he can win even gods.

So they sat down and played. The bets was the most terrorfying one Neex ever made, the winner takes the other's soul. When they started to play, Neex again, looked into the stranger's eyes. This was the secret of Neex's skills, and this was how he won thousands of games without ever being outwitted. Through his opponents' eyes, he could see cards that they were holding. This time though, the stranger's presence seemed to disturb Lady Tymora more than a little, when Neex looked into his eyes, to Neex's horror, he saw nothing, absolutely blank and darkness. Confused, he stroke his eyes, and then looked into the stranger's eyes once more, and he widened his eyes hard trying to catch the slightest reflection of the cards in the stranger's eyes, but again, he failed. The stranger only smiled knowingly, if it was a smile at all, then he said with a hollowed voice:" Trying to seek advantage over me? You will find nothing, because there is nothing in Death!" Horrified, Neex knew he could not win the person in front of him. He begged the stranger, Death, to take back the bet. Death laughed with a voice that stood the hair on the back of Neex's neck. And Death laughed and laughed, his laughter mocked the stupidity of this mere mortal who dared to accept his challenge and who hoped to find mercy in Death. For a long time, the room was filled with the terrible and empty laughters of Death, then he stoped, Neex dared not to even breath. Death said: "probally we can struck a deal, shall we?"

Their deal was a deadly one, Death trapped Neex's soul in the big hades card and took it, in return, Neex must capture another fifty two souls, each card trap one soul, in exchange for his own. From that day, Neex became a creature without soul, he roamed over the land, seeking capable preys to fullfill his ransom. For next centuries to come, tales and sayings sprout all over the places such as: "One should never accpet a proposal of gamble from a stranger." or "Don't play a charlatan's game." Many charlatans who seek to make livings with their illusionery skills met distrust and suspicious gazes.

Stats:
Tyep: dart
Dmg: N/A
Sepcial:
This deck contains fifty three iron cards, from Ace to King, and one extra: the small Hades. Each of the cards can be used as a throwing dart. The special thing is, a wielder can throw four cards at one time, and he can make one attack per round. Four cards will shoot towards the target with deadly accuracy and speed, attacker's thac0 is applied as well as dex bonus for four times. The cards are considered as +1 weapon to determine to Hit. Critical hit DOES NOT increase dmg.

The deck is automatically shuffled each day.

The cards does the following feats:

from Ace of any kind to Ten of any kind: piercing dmg according to the number on the cards (a Five will do five piercing dmg)

Jack of Clubs (the assasin): a successful hit result a save vs death or suffer 24 poison dmg for the next four rounds. Successful saving throw reduce the dmg and duration by half.

Jack of Diamonds (the fortune): a successful hit will result target with Bless and Luck for four rounds

Jack of Hearts (the male lover): a successful hit requires target to make save vs spell or be Dire Charmed

Jack of Spades (the illfortune): a successful hit result a similar effect to Greater Malison and Bad Luck, though it only lasts for one turn

Queen of Clubs (the witch's curse): a successful hit requires the target to save vs spell at -2 or lose 2 strength, 2 cons, and 2 dex for the next turn

Queen of Diamonds (the maginificent): a successful hit requires a save vs spell at -2 or be silenced for one turn

Queen of Hearts (the female lover): a successful hit requires target to save vs spell at -2 or suffer spell, Emotion: Hopelessness

Queen of Spades (the fate's mistress): a successful hit depends on the target's fateful coin. If the target's fateful coin landed on fortune side, then he will be immediately healed, and remove all negative effect. If the target's fateful coin landed on ill side, his HP will be reduced to one. If the target's fateful coin laded on edge, then do nothing.

King of Clubs (the warrior): a successful hit requires save vs spell at -4 or suffer 40 bleeding dmg

King of Diamonds (the greed): a successful hit requires save vs spell at -4 or doubles all dmg inflicted on target for the next four rounds

King of Hearts (the wisdom): a suceesful hit have target rememorise two of his used spells, start from the highest level

King of Spades (the final judge): does 13 slashing dmg

small Hades (Death's portion): (to hit roll is NOT required) save vs death at -6 or die

If four cards of a same kind are thrown, they do double dmg. This only applies to from Ace to Ten

Note #1: there are only 53 cards in the deck, because big Hades contains Neex's soul is kept by Death

Note #2: King of Spades has no special power, because it is the only remaining card that hadn't trapped a soul. If King of Spades is used to kill a target AND successfully trapped its soul, something will happen

Try to make things less complex, that way someone might be able to put the concept to good use.
