I finished the game solo. Henchmen are very helpful in the first chapter. After that, you can probably dispense with them if you wish.
I found in chapter 3, it was more work than it was worth trying to keep Tomi alive, so I left him home. They're not available in chapter 4, so you'll all solo in the end.

Grimgnaw, by far. He's no sissy to say the least, and he can heal himself. I'm chaotic(15) good(92) and he's lawful evil, so i hope he can twist my mind enough so i can experience an alignement shift.

Ermm.. You can use Henchman in the final chapter, it just requires that you have one at the end of Chapter 3...

I play as an Elven Druid, and use Daelen, I don't have problems with locked chests since a lightning bolt or just Daelen's attacks will open them. Traps aren't too much of a problem in this game, and a few skill points in disarming will suffice.

Well, I'm a level 6 elf sorceress with 29 hp with a 38 hp panther. But there's no way we can handle real melee combat such as with Loxar, so I choose a fighter henchman. Daelan is great!

Im currently useing Grimgnaw the most bad ass little dwarf monk in the world!! I just noticed a little while ago that all of his attacks do elemental damage!!. If My fighter/thief cant unlock it or bash it I just set him loose and it is good as dead!! Also he does more damage when he hits barefisted than I do weilding 2 longswords.

Well I see votes for Boddyknock, yet no posts LOL! Embarassed yall??

Hey, he's a prim an proper goofy looking nerdball, yes, but I've kept him mostly as my henchman (use Tomi here and there for certain places). He drives me insane with his not always listening to my "Stand Your Ground" commands and gets himself surrounded and killed, plus he wastes a lot of his good spells on little nothing monsters (again "Stand Your Ground" not working). But on a good day he is fun to have around, hastes you and stoneskin's you and increases your AC, makes you invisible, and also has a lot of defensive spells. It is fun to see what he has new spell-wise when he levels up. He also can use Knock and open chests and doors. Saved my butt a few times too LOL.

The first time through I was a dwarven fighter and I used Tomi to start so I could get into the chests but when I got to a higher level I switched to Sharwyn cause I could bash locks (I stopped having her pick them for me cause the voice acting got so bloody annoying ) and she was good as far as buffing spells and stuff were concerned

I am currently going through as a Sorc and I have Daelen(sp?) for my hench so he takes the smacks, my fairy thing does the locks and traps (better than Tomi ever was! At thief stuff AND fighting )and I stand at the back casting sleep and that colour ray spell thing

Well i actually use Tomi Undergallows, he is much more useful in his disarming traps and opening locked chest if you can't bash your way through doors or locked chest. for i'm currently using a paladin..
