It was stated that you could use your BG2 character in the original press for NWN but when the game released that was not there. The main reason is currently the level cap for NWN is 20. Most characters from BG2 were much higher than that. So I am sorry to say you can not import your character.

If you will notice the shadow dancer class has some requirements you have to have before you can get access to that as a class.

To qualify to become a shadowdancer, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria:

Move Silently: 8 Ranks
Hide: 10 Ranks
Tumble: 5 Ranks
Feats: Dodge, Mobility

Once you have these upon you next level up you can choose it.

Actually, it's more because both game use different rules systems, and don't even have the same items, so they would have had to strip you of all your items and xp. They don't even have the same attribute creation system, so all that's left is your name. You can easily "import" that.

That's what I read on bioware's website, except for the crappy joke.

Why was that a problem now when it didn't stop them doing just that upon importing a character from BG1 to BG2? Silly Bioware people

Silly Bioware people
A character with all the stat boosts available from BG1 & BG2 would be a *god* in terms of NWN stats. Even a character fresh fron candlekeep would be impressive, since the points system in NWN is *miserly* compared to the BG roller.

I know why it isn't practical to allow BG characters to be imported into NWN, it's the reasons that Bioware gives that make me smile.

Well you'd think they could have at least compensated for this falsely advertised statement and created a small conversion wizard for those who just insisted on importing their BG character. The wizard could have simply read the character file itself and then created a 3rd edition clone of that character (or near as can be). Even though BG was 2nd edition and the system would not work, there wouldn't really be anything to worry about since this wizards job in the game was to actually converted your character to 3rd edition.

Yeah, a character converter, that's it . Even if it did nothing but match you characters name and coloring that would have kept alot of people happy.
