I installed ToB before I finished BG2
Ive yet to complete it but to be honest its a little dissapointing

Gains are too much for one.....seem to get far too many points for kills now.....Im gaining levels so damn fast its unreal

The special abilities that the chars gain after level 18-24 (depending on char) gain every single level, just seems to make the char way too powerful

I am in undated with super weapons now...seems too many to make them special at all.

The Deva's/Planetar's look wierd and dont fit in at all with BG, no idea who designed/drew them but they dont look like they fit in with BG as if they have been taken from another game and super imposed into ToB......

Hmm maybe its just at high levels its less exiting gaining levels or acquiring new things Im not sure
Its to easy at the moment
I have my char,Korgan and Saverok and we just wade through anything with a red circle we are too unstoppable.

Naturally there are a lot of good things too
Just these seem to spoil it and Ive lost interest in it totally....
shame....

Well, I do not agree completely with you...IŽll grant you that the planetar/deva does look somewhat out of pic...but the progression in levels are not that insane...and it is clear that the game sort of slows down when you become a true bhaalspawn with complete and devastating powers!

If you think that the game is too easy at higher levels, then why not change the difficulty level...
I play on insane... anything less I find to be hillariously easy.

As for the Devas/Planetars... you get used to them after a few times thru the game. Trust me.

Easy.....bloody hell, I don't know. Near the end there is at least a dozen very tough battles. If played at Normal and above this should provide tremendous challenges. The spell casters are very tough.

How high a level are your characters?

Personally I enjoy trying to see how far I can go without resting, it makes the game a lot of fun. Alternatively if you rest up often then I agree the game is much easier. Also I do not use the traps, too easy and boring, should be cut out of the game in my opinion.

Infact after playing through about halfway through the game I found it a little tedious in that I was always fighting mages / or solving puzzles. The game slows down a lot.

I bought IWD and really enjoyed a real hack, putting TOB down for months.

Came back to TOB, and again enjoyed it, but for real hacking fun and decent story try IWD, and it ain't easy if played at hard level.

Cheers

in some obscene and perverted way, i think that i enjoyed icewind dale more than bg2/tob. i can't explain it, but i iwd seemed to have better replayability. i suppose that it's just me. i'm sure that others feel differently. i always liked the atmosphere/music in iwd more than bg2. i've play ToB most of the way through, but towards the end i just lost steam. the game felt so uninspiring.
actually, i just might be burt out on fantasy rpg's. i would really like to see some sci-fi rpgs. does anyone remember megatraveler? that game combined with a game like privateer would be so awesome.

Swavek,

I agree some of the music in IWD creates a pretty good atmosphere, the only thing missing is that the are no NPC like Edwin etc, which would have added to its appeal.

I would say for fun value, IWD is better, but for strategic moves combatting the various spellcasters, story and NPC invlovement, BG is a lot better.

What would make both games better is tkaing a hard look at the damn administration, like saving/loading games, treasure collecting/selling, knowing what thing does what. This all takes far too bloody long. They need to come up with some simple windows drop menu, and search options.

Eg 20 dead characters on the ground with various treasures.

1.Drop menu "collect all" automatically populates various free space, who cares were it is for now.
2.View "new items"
etc

About to fight a vampire
1. key Search words "Negative plane protection" at least highlights what items you currently hold and spells work against it, and who currently holds them....

Anyway, I understand that this is the experience factor and you need to learn as you go.....but stuff it.....I and probably many people cannot spend hours on the game, I would prefer not stuffing around with admin...just enjoy the game.

There ya go

I, too started TOB and got bored with it and went to Icewind Dale. Beautiful graphics, great music. BETTER PORTRAITS! Like you say, it'd be a lot better with NPC's but at least it taught me how to run a Multiplayer game, and that's something. I've now started SOA again, and really like it. Think I'll be able to take my new party )with Viconia) through TOB.

I feel bad for the guys who came up with Baldurs Gate. They had a far reaching story in mind and were forced to cut it short. You can tell TOB was rushed. The gameplay is completely linear. The new dungeon is the only part that didn't look rushed. The little smart-ass Imp was a cute idea. Such is the problem with games and books. The publishing companies want them stretched out to get the most money, but when they're ready to drop a series, they want it tied up and finished in one more book/game. That's if they even give you that opportunity. I wonder how many game series and book series were cut short in mid-saga because of flagging profits?
