Thanks, Packrat!
I've got my system info here somewhere...(now if my wife would just leave it where it was we'd be set). Intel P3 866mHz 512 Mb RAM (new addition original was 128) 20GB 7200RPM WD Ultra ATA Hard Drive 6MB NVIDIA TNT-2 Vanta Graphics Accelerator (big problem?) SB LIVE Value w/ Digital audio output (is SBLive 5.1 Value card...same drivers at least) Win XP (home edition) That's the most important info I think... I might have 8.x Direct X but haven't checked. So, what do you think? Vid card/sound card... bad RAM? I didn't partition the hard drive when I installed XP but I have an extra HD lying about that I will transfer info to if I do the dual boot.

If this

Everything else looks pretty good. If it were bad ram...you would probably have trouble with alot of other things as well. I'm curious....Is this 'onboard' video ??? Or just a very old card??? Either way...as long as there's an AGP slot, (or an open pci slot) there room for an ugrade.

(edit-add) (no typo unless Gateway's site has misinformation) (end-add)
It's a mid-tower case and I know I've got at least 2 more PCI slots. I have absolutely no idea about AGP slots... I haven't cracked the case for so long... the machine is about 1.5 years old (maybe more). The vid card is removable and I took the info from the parts list via Gateway's site and my customer number. I've been wanting to upgrade the video at the least for quite some time but haven't been able to talk fast enough to the wife to get it. Maybe now that I've got some extra ammo I'll get my chance Thanks again! [ 09-03-2002, 09:40 PM: Message edited by: macoati ]

Even the new nVidia driver (now 30.82) won't help that card. (if the machine is that new...it should have an AGP card) A GeForce 3 Ti 500, 64MB...is about $85-$90. (It might not run some of the New titles but it will do alot better then what you have now.)
Of course if you can talk fast enough...a Geforce4 Ti 4200..would be nice.

I've been talking about as fast as I can... I even let her read the suggestions! I get to go shopping for a new card in a few minutes (oh joy!) as I am almost on my way out the door.

You should open the case...Just to be sureits an AGP card..The slot will be a different color and a different size then the pci. It would also be the only one like it on the board.
Happy Shopping... Let us know what you get?????

It will probably sell higher....and you definately should question the seller...That is a very low price.
You might also check Here...IMHO..I'ld be much more comfortable...knowing it was brand new and in a retail box. Even if it means buying a little less of a card....But that is just..IMHO.
