IMHO it was because it came out in the 70s and kids were rebelling, parents didn't understand how a kid could play a game with no cards or boards. They thought it was Satan Worshiping 'cause of the demons and such on the covers. Dice were used by gamblers. AND there are some kids who do get WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too into the game. You know, the kind that by full length silk robes and write out there spells every day. But now, people all use computers, there are all kinds of games out there, and this is just one of 'em. Plus, the kids today, more than likely, their parents were the ones playing PnP back in the 70s 80s. DnD comes full circle.

My parents are both 70, they don't understand a thing to AD&D, but they find very funny that I play RPGs !!!

My parents are actually envious of me playing BG2 because they hear all this "Make way villiany - 'ero comin' thru'!!" coming from my room, plus they think that it's actaully educational. (To some extent is is by the way)

Been playin 'em for years, don't intend to give up now, or anytime soon! Pong, Atari, ZX Spectrum (and the amazing rubber keyboard).
My parents are both in their 50s (so not old). My dad is really into flight sims and F1 racing games (he has a steering wheel for them) and my mum is always on the net. I don't phone them anymore, I just send an e-mail!
I would be mighty proud to follow that tradition!

My parents don't know anything about computers, RPGs, what their barbarians... er... kids are up to. Only recently did my mother become aware that the little green light on the computer means the thing is turned on. I think it's safe to say BGII is driving her nuts now (not that I'm helping much, what with teaching any small child that passes through to say 'Hamsters and rangers everywhere, rejoice!'). And my dog barks *whenever* Irenicus talks...

I hope I never stop playing computer games. I think they are entertaining for all ages, and I think many old folks don't play them because they simply have never really given them a shot. If they did I think they would latch onto the idea. I mean think about it, when your 80 years old, you can't get up and run around anymore, so you are limited to sitting in a chair or a bed. Computers would be the ideal thing for them. I go with my mom once in a while to a nursing home to visit with the old folks there whose families have deserted them. Some of them have TVs in their rooms and some do not (just stare at the walls all day every day). I guarantee you if they all had computers in their rooms it would make such a difference in their lives. I am hoping that years from now in the future, computers and the internet will become as common as telephones and everyone, including nursing homes, will have access to them.

Bilqis - I know what you mean! Kids these days have it made compared to what we had when we were kids! They have computer games and we had pots and pans to play with! I don't have my old Atari anymore, battery acid ruined it, but we still have the ol' Commodore!

LZ: OMG you still have your Commodore 64? I remember that was the first platform to have a AD&D crpg on it
