The only time i use shadowkeeper is if the game screws me out of all my items. Like sometimes when one of your character dies (especially in the crushing walls in the asylum) and you lose all their equipment because it all got deleted. Then i will use shadowkeeper to give my characters back their items.

Guys, do you think the import and export is cheating? I've made a Human Lawful Good Paladin with 25 in all his stats by import and export him.

Sheeeesh. Who cares if it "is cheating" or not. A clever talker could define ANYTHING as cheating.... saving a game is cheating by defnition if you are a strict AD&D player (you can't go back to a previous "save" in D&D, so why should you be able to do that in BG?)

That is not the point at all. The point is, if YOU enjoy playing a paladin with 25 in all stats, by all means, be my guest and play the game with him! Personally, I can't imagine anybody wanting a PC with 25 in all stats, where's the challenge in that? Also, one of the best parts of the game for me has always been when you get a chance to increase your statpoints (by wielding Crom Faeyr, donning a Strength Belt or in the finale of the game). You'd miss out on that too. But that doesn't mean you cannot use that Paladin! If that's what you enjoy doing, no one has a right to condemn it for being a cheat. Some people simply enjoy different aspects of the game...

cheating...
ugh...
I just hate the sound of it
Never even thought of trying to cheat in BG2 (not in other game either, only when i completed them maybe), it would waste everything.

Technically, any bending of the rules as stated in the game manual is cheating. Even creating your own spells or items, something I do quite often, is cheating. However, since this is a computer game and not a person with feelings that could be hurt the questions "Is this cheating?" and "Should you cheat?" become moot.

The essence of cheating, the immorality/lack of ethical behavior implied by that concept, lies in the act of trying to defraud another person. When you "bend" the rules of a computer game you are not, in any way, defrauding another person. The worst that happens when you cheat at a computer game is that you may rob yourself of some of the gaming experience--why strive to overcome adversity when you are given power or objects of power that make the striving pointless?

If your total gaming experience happiness means bending the rules, then bend away. For the others, stick to the manual. It is, after all, your game that you paid for; what you do with it is up to you.

I will cheat under three sets of circumstances:

1) If it's to satisfy my own nitpicky nature, and won't affect the game. For instance, in a recent game of BG1 I hacked in a stack of 25 Clairvoyance scrolls, so that I could clear out a map screen, and then if there was any part of that screen that was still "unexplored" (like the middle of the Friendly Arm map), I'd use a scroll and then be free to go somewhere else, without that nagging sensation that I hadn't cleared the whole map.

2) To fix a bug, obviously.

3) To make "justified" alterations. For instance, suppose I play a game of BG1 in which I don't dual-class Imoen, I just keep her a pure Thief. If I then take that same main character into BG2 and still want Imoen to be a pure Thief (or kit) instead of a Mage/Thief, I'll go ahead and hack that in. Kinda funny about sending a Thief to Spellhold, but hey, I'll deal with it.
